In the novel The Dreamer, Andrea Hirata told me about his life. on school days. The three main characters in this work is curly, Arai and Jimbron. Curls Andrea Hirata is none other than his own, while Arai is a distant relative who was orphaned as a child. Arai called sacred hoop in his family because he was the last person who was alive and he was appointed as a child by the father curls. Jimbron an Arai and curly friend who is obsessed with horses and stutter when you are passionate about something or when nervous. All three passed the tale of friendship that exists from small to college they go to school, the first school established in the eastern part of the Pacific Islands.
In order to meet the necessities of life, curly and Arai have to work as a porter at a fish harbor in the early morning and go to school afterwards. However, they remain persistent learning so that is always in the top five of the 160 students in his school. Their school is a public school first prestigious in K., previously only the closest school is in Tanjung Pandan. The school is located 30 kilometers from home curly and Arai so they had to rent a room and live far from their parents.

Independent living apart from their parents against the background of the economic conditions were very limited but has great ideals, an aspiration which, when seen against the backdrop of their lives, only a dream..
