Gravity's Rainbow, Thomas Pynchon. First Edition.

in #books7 years ago

Here we have the magnum opus of that titan of post-modern literature, Thomas Pynchon. Hell, I'll call him The Titan of 20 Century Lit. Famously reclusive, the last confirmed picture of him was his 1955 photo for the Navy. Rumor has it that he also made a cameo in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice (based on the eponymous Pynchon book).

Gravity's Rainbow was selected by the Pulitzer Prize jury in 1974, but the Advisory Board described it as "'unreadable,' 'turgid,' 'overwritten' and in parts 'obscene'" and, as a result, no Pulitzer for Fiction was awarded that year. It won the National Book Award and is included in TIME's "All-Time 100 Greatest Novels" list.

If any of you haven't read Gravity's Rainbow yet, run to your nearest bookshop, pick up a copy, and hang on. You're in for a trip.
