BB #3: Why many people struggle on steemit? 😡

in #blogs7 years ago (edited)

There are many inspiring posts on steemit, on various areas of skills that steemians have.

All the amazing creators here post what they are good at and what they enjoy creating.

But many-many others are just not able to catch up with them.

Why?

I could find three glaring issues

1. Inconsistency kills

One thing, which is most observable, is that most people are not consistent enough. That group includes me as well.

Be it because of the hectic jobs that we do that doesn't allow us much time to spend on steemit.
Or be it the any other reason such as struggle with writing.

For whatever reasons, if you are not consistently posting, liking and commenting to build your following/community, you won't succeed here.

2. Lack of understanding of the Audience

Second thing, I feel, that results in failure is the lack of understanding of audience on steemit.

Why would I care about the politics or any related news in your country?

Almost all the countries have stupid national media and terrible politicians. They all resort to fear mongering and unnecessary sensationalization at absolutely irrational level.

Facebook posts are filled with all that stupidity.

Steemit, on the other hand, has an international audience searching for a quality post relevant to them.

Oblige them I say.

3. Steemit’s curse

But what if you are creating good posts and still not getting much attention.

There is one of the things I noticed -

Many people blindly, and selfishly, only vote on the posts made by individuals with higher power.
Because the person with higher power will definitely get more likes on his posts.

So, in hopes to gather curation rewards, and probably poster's attention, people vote on the basis of Power rankings. Sometimes without even reading the post!

Such actions result in many good posts from minnows getting lost in the hope of likes.
While the posts by dolphins and whales get all the gifts (with due respect to the dolphins and whales as they deserve every bit for their efforts)

I think such actions are inspired by one of the very few unfavorable motivations that Steemit as a platform breeds.

But I believe that it is a part of the evolution of steemit.

It will be challenged and changed when the time comes.

What do yo you think are the reasons of failure on steemit?
Tell me in the comments below 😊

Keep creating!

Sort:

The reasons for failure are sometimes obvious:

  1. People (mostly from poor countries - not trying to be racist here) think they can make big money by just posting anything --> a lot of really poor posts!

  2. "Vore for Vote" post - or even worse: You post an long article with 1000+words and pictures --> 30 seconds after publishing "Great post, thx for sharing - please upvote and follow me". I have to lol so hard when I see something like that. I also share links of my posts f.e.. BUT only in posts related to mine and after I have read the post and understood it. And I go into detail and ask things I really want to know. I just share with people who I think post similar stuff than me.

Those are the two main errors I see. But there are many more ;)

Totally agree with the second point.
Follow for follow is a turn off.
I never follow the 'follow beggers'.

Your first point is an interesting observation and seems quite possible.
Pity if that's true.

Thank you for stopping by @theaustrianguy 🍻

Unfortunately I do not think that the first point ever will stop - And I can understand it. If I would sit in a poor country and see people making hundreds of dollars for a post - I would try verything as well ;)

Point 3 is absolutely true but... isn't it the same as in real live? Doesn't people follow (or have more attention) for what a rich/successfull person says and neglect what they think is just a nobody... ?

If it's about knowing what the successful ones say, and then upvoting, it's fine.
But if it's about upvoting, without even reading, for curation rewards then...
Similarly in the real life, I think if one is learning from the successful people then it's worth following them. What do you say?

What I meant to say is (and sorry for my poor english) that in real life too, people are blind by the succes or title of others, even if they don't deserve it, they follow them and believe everything the so called succesful ones say or do.

Yes that's true. That's the issue in real life as well 😒
Good to interact with you pixelfan.
