The great purge: 2023

Valerie Vomit

Every year I redefine myself by purging all my posts from the past year. I do this on read.cash and Publish0x, but I can't do this on Hive. As such Hive sort of ends up being a kind of archive while not being a complete one.

This year will be no different but it will also not be the same as in the past.

With the recent announcement by The Random Rewarder, I see no reason to carry on with the read.cash platform. On the surface this decision seems like a fiduciary one but it's far more than that.

When I write I expect some form of return of investment. I don't mean this from a financial return only. For me, the interaction from readers is far superior but I'm not adverse to getting some coin either.

read.cash only ever succeeded in giving me a financial return. When it came to user interaction it failed. The only person who often tipped me was The Random Rewarder. It seems to me that he only tipped because I wasn't writing screeds and screeds of crap about crypto. He used to tip well but no one else seemed to appreciate non-crypto stuff on read.cash. As such read.cash offers nothing for me anymore. There was no social interaction and now tipping is gone. I never even read many posts there either. Most of the posts are crypto related and that doesn't do much for me.

So read.cash is gone. As is noise.cash. That's not so much a failing of noise.cash as a rebranding as the site no longer remains bound to Bitcoin Cash. noise.cash is now noise.app so I will still use that. only less so.

Once again tips have dried up on that platform. Mark DeMessel seems to have played a part in both read.cash and noise.cash. He seems to be the real reason why both platforms have dried up. With the move over to noise.app a whole bunch of people seem to have left that platform. These were ones that I often interacted with also. So noise.app has left me with somewhat of a conundrum. I don't want to give up on the platform because it's a great one with great people. But, I also can interact with them on other platforms such as Publish0x and even Hive.

Which leads me to my plans for 2023 and the platforms I will be concentrating on for this year.

Publish0x, Hive (Ecency and D.Buzz), YouTube, and noise.app. Let me explain my choices.

Publish0x:
This stalwart platform has been my mainstay of social interaction in the past. While tips are lower than most platforms, it often rewards me with reader interaction. As I value this the most, Publish0x is going to be the platform that I interact with the most. I love how its feed isn't completely full of crypto stuff, even though it is heavy with it.

Hive:
Hive is the reason I got into this crypto business in the first place... well, Steem was but I jumped to Hive during the Justin Sun debacle. Because of Hive I now have Apple shares and thus this platform holds a special place in my heart. I prefer to interact with Hive using the Ecency app on iOS for my long form posts. For short form posting though, I prefer to use D.Buzz. Both have their pros and cons but they are a rounded out platform built on Hive. Hive has a greater interest spread so I can find a broader spectrum of articles than I can on Publish0x. This keeps me coming back for more.

YouTube:
While YouTube is the devil's platform, more people use it than any other video platform. For this reason I will not use any of the so-called decentralised platforms. My experiences with DTube, LBRY/Odessey, 3Speak etc have been poor at best. They have horrible interfaces, are slow, and buggy at the best of times. I've earned as much from them as I have YouTube so I'm better off using YouTube and promoting via D.Buzz instead.

noise.app:
While noise.app isn't the platform that it once was, it is still a great app to use and spread ideas. A better form of Twitter than Twitter, it can also act as a long form site as well. It does lack article formatting though so it's not as good for long form posting as Publish0x and Hive. My usage of this platform will mirror D.Buzz except it will be more for promoting my Publish0x articles.

To replace my Instagram account I will combine YouTube with D.Buzz and noise.app. It's a more round about approach but one that is safer than handing over data to Facebook./Meta.

Anyway, I am Loweded Wookie and this is my blog.
