10 Questions to make your Brain Hurt Challenge #1 Drag your friends in and present the most awesome answers :-)

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

One of the greatest things I can do for the world and to the individuals that inhibit it is getting them to think. The future can be influenced with the actions we take in the present. We can't counter all the effects of a past with no beginning in sight. But we can tamper with the flow of destiny. I'm trying this new format of posts to get people into thinking.

I'll be using a mix of simple, easy, philosophical, technical, allegorical and all types of questions as they come to my mind. Some will be easy to answer and some would be nigh impossible. For some I Might put down a little commentary. I haven't started typing any question. Let's see how this would turn out to be.

1) How did Orange fruit and Orange color got named? In multiple cultures I've seen the word for Orange color being used to name an Orange colored fruit.

2) You are in the middle of a desert. A genie finds you and offer to build you a castle with everything in it except other human beings and no other humans from outside are allowed. Are you going to accept the offer?

3)If you woke up as an omnipotent God one day, what's the first thing you are going to do?

4)What is the safest superpower to have to live with no risks and live carefree?

5)What if someone or a group of people fabricated the existence of a century or more during the middle ages where documents and literacy was very low.

6)What is the best way to beat a lie detector? Would you remain calm and lie right in the face or intentionally make yourself nervous and convince yourself in your mind that you are lying while actually telling the truth?

7) 500 million dollar Yacht Vs 500 million dollar Home Vs 500 million dollar Jet? [Personally I'd love the jet with a Library, Home Theater, Bedroom, Bunch of gaming devices, an office, lounge and dining area in a Boeing A 380. I don't drink so no Bar. I can do all my work while on air and if jurisdiction is getting unfavorable, I don't have to bother finding sellers. The jet has higher utility and faster travel for me]

8)How much of your childhood can you remember? If you remembered differently, would you act as a different person.

9) Do the choices you make define you or Do you make choices based on who you are?

10)Evil is self destructive. Therefore absolute Evil isn't possible. On the other hand absolute Good is merely hyper-difficult. Do you agree?

That's it for now. Just use the number of the question when you answer things in the comments. I was trying to think of a good riddle. But didn't find anything satisfying enough for me. I'm thinking of making couple of similar posts a week. What do you think? I'm open to suggestions. But I won't guarantee I'd go with all of them.

If you had fun (migraine) thinking, consider a resteem.

Sort:
  1. Wikipedia: "The word orange derives from the Sanskrit word for "orange tree" (नारङ्ग nāraṅga), which in turn derives from a Dravidian root word (from நரந்தம் narandam which refers to Bitter orange in Tamil)."

  2. Yes. I could always leave the castle.

  3. An omnipotent Being would have supreme wisdom, and would do whatever his wisdom dictates.

  4. Invincibility.

  5. This is only partially hypothetical, since the Catholic Church had a firm grip on history back in the day. Still, doing this completely is pretty much impossible. Literacy wasn't ever low enough.

  6. Bribe the guy running the detector.

  7. House.

  8. I don't know. 17.43%. If I remembered differently, would I be a different person? No. If you mean person as in 'being', I would say personhood is determined by the soul, not memories. If you mean person as in character, I would say experience, not the memory thereof, helps shape someone.

  9. Actions are willed by the freewill of the soul. Based on these, we may determine what kind of person you are.

  10. I don't really know what you mean. Evil is either a characteristic (which cannot be treated as an entity) or a Platonic metaphysical entity which does not destruct itself.

Good riddle: Look up the Ship of Theseus.

Also, the first bullet point on your Socrates picture is false. It refers to Plato's Theory of Forms, which Aristotle says Socrates never held. It was developed by Plato after Socrates' death.

Also, the story of Socrates' death is much more interesting.

The best answer I got. 100% upvoted and followed.

Everything we know about Socrates comes through other people. From what I know Socrates never passed down any written work himself.

Oh dear this one means I have to think!

Like alot aaaah.

Not sure I can manage it today as I coax myself back into the productivity groove!

And yet seriously - thinking is seriously under rated and until more folks actually engage in free thought and reject inherited beliefs our world will remain in a stick.

I applaud your efforts to wake up the people.

Wishing you great success and happiness for 2018 and beyond.

Nice challenge ;) I love Philosophy so I'll share some of my thoughts:

  1. I would guess that in older days, and only in countries in which oranges was common and vital to the economy - people just saw oranges as something important enough so that his color got his name, even when regarding different objects. It would be interesting to compare lands that are fit for oranges growing and lands that can't grow them and see if there is a significant trent. I think Noam Chomsky's theory that all languages have the same underlying grammar to them might be applied regarding that question.
  2. No - I believe people are companion creatures by nature and will get tired from the pleasures in the castle in a fast manner. One also have to think about his needs in case of disease when no one is there to care for him. Quit simply - I cannot think of living like that.

That's what I have time to write right now. Might come back and edit and add some more ;)
