the business, January 28th

in #blog6 years ago

The business of pleasant surprises seldom disappoints.

Whether it be a stroke of luck, narrowly avoiding a puddle of ambiguous depth in the sidewalk or finding a five dollar note in your back pocket, fortune has a beautiful smile. Flustered in thought, my actions in tandem, I scarcely thought myself able to settle down with the attractive industry to my right. I arrived at class, punctually, on time was late, thoughts echoed from junior varsity soccer coach Bisceglia, and scanned the room for my favorite roosting spot. The electric charge scales my spine, tingling, the tipping point between excitement and fear, as I saunter across the room, formulating a new approach to the present issue, my typical seat is occupied! The seat immediately left will do, I suppose. A garment of bright woolen primaries, big blocked stripes of red, blue, yellow, a birthday party with your pals from elementary, mischievous, good fun impresses upon me a declaration of fashion and spirit. A brandish and change in posture, matters of fact, reveals my new-found company carries in a taste in footwear, in a flash, memories of my pair, a time around the time my age entered pubescent stages, an almost pious faith in maintaining the tabula rasa of white Air Force 1’s. Miraculously, or a function of good teaching, the opportunity to meet graced us, and we exchanged names. Small talk is a gross fallacy in social etiquette; no chit-chat is too measly; the most telling experiences begin and end with the strongest expressions; take note of how you bid farewell. Most enjoyable, my weekend was still no tale to write home to anyone, save for a film fanatic, or as fate would have it, the very being sitting to my right – her hometown as it were! Not only familiar with Deer Island, our fair lady strolled by, albeit, another day the same sands, buffeted by the same biting chill, more unlikely it seemed, that our paths did not cross, she revealed. Hiding my pleased disposition with today’s happenings proved difficult, the task at large dwarfed the prospect of currying fortune’s favor, Lucille.
