4 Easy Ways To Find Blog Topics To Write About

in #blog8 years ago

Anyone who blogs runs into this problem at one time or the other: what to write about. There will be those days where you just sit and stare at the computer screen, hoping an interesting blog topic would pop into your head. When you find this happening to you, consider these 4 ways I use to find a topic to write about:

Google Alerts: Google Alerts are keyword searches you can setup via Google which will run every day, or week, or even up-to-the-minute. The search results will be emailed to you based on the frequency you have the Google Alert executed. I have a handful of these alerts setup to perform searches based on blogging and social media terms. So every day, I get a new batch of alerts which can go through not only to help me keep up on what’s going on in these two areas but also to generate ideas on what to write about.

Regator: Regator is a site which continuously collects high-quality, popular blog posts each day and presents them under 500 different categories. Similar to such sites as Digg and StumbleUpon, Regator is a great way to see what topics or news is currently popular. Depending on what you blog about, chances are you can spend five to 10 minutes on Regator and come up with a bunch of topical blog topic ideas.

RSS Feeds: Another great way to keep tabs on what’s going on in the blogging and social media world. RSS stands for Real Simply Syndication and just every blog has a RSS feed which you can subscribe to. There are numerous ways you can subscribe and read RSS feeds. My preference is Netvibes which is a free online service which allows you to create tabbed pages for your RSS feeds. For example, you could have one page for sports-related feeds, another for world politics-related feeds, and so on. It’s easy to use and I can’t recommend it enough!

Review Your Blog Stats: While this method may be a bit odd, it can be a handy source of inspiration. What you want to do is take a look at your blog stats to see which blog posts are receiving the most visits. If you have Google Analytics installed, then this is a snap. If you don’t have Google Analytics installed or are unfamiliar with it, then you can check out this series of posts on Getting Started With Google Analytics.

After you do this, try to come up with some blog post ideas which deals with or expands on those popular posts. I

These are just four ways I use to generate some blog post ideas. Which ones do you tend to rely on? Which one works best for you? Thanks!
