The True Story of Valak the Demon Nun

In 2016, Hollywood helped yet another horrifying true story come to life. This time, it was in The Conjuring 2, and contrary to popular feelings on sequels, this was no flop of a film. The Conjuring 2 seamlessly outlines the real life paranormal investigation held by Ed and Lorraine Warren for the investigation of the Enfield Poltergeist, which was actually one of the most concise and credible paranormal cases documented to date. However, within the film, there is a demon that haunts Lorraine Warren and tries to hold her back from battling the Enfield poltergeist.
If you’ve seen the film, you would recognize her as the demonic nun named Valak that Ed couldn’t stop painting pictures of. Though she had only appeared twice in the film as herself, the horror she instilled was undoubtedly felt for the entirety of the film. She was so terrifying in those two short moments, in fact, that she is now getting her own movie due to come out in 2018.
But what’s the best and worst part (depending on how you look at it) about this demonic nun? She actually terrorized Lorraine Warren in real life. In this article, we’ll explore more about the real demon nun that was so eloquently terrifying in The Conjuring 2.

The Real Deal

While Lorraine Warren, a world-renowned paranormal investigator was working on the real Amityville Horror case, the real Annabelle case, the Enfield Haunting, and thousands of other cases, she was wrestling with a demon of her own. At first, this awful entity began haunting her dreams. She would dream of a black veiled demon with female energy attacking her husband in a macabre fashion. The dreams affected her so much that she eventually began having trouble concentrating during the day.
Given Lorraine and her husband’s line of work, she knew that these increasingly awful dreams were the manifestation of something even worse. Eventually, she began seeing the veiled demon in her waking life, appearing to be attempting to attack her husband. The black veiled female demon did not actually appear to Lorraine as a nun, however, that’s the most sense that she could make out of the appearance of this entity.
After some time, Lorraine found out that this was actually the demon named Valak. While Valak has not achieved the fame of its’ fellow demons such as Beelzebub or the like, it is quite the powerful force.
Valak first appeared in a piece of literature from the 1500s known as a goetic grimoires or, in plain English—a spell book. The spell book Valak was specifically included in was a magic book entitled The Lesser Key of Solomon. The demon was portrayed in this literature as a cherubic little boy that rides a two-headed dragon. According to the text, Valak’s special power was to be able to locate treasures. However, don’t let that trick you into thinking that this was some “nice” demon. According to The Lesser Key of Solomon, Valak was a president and ruled over thirty legions of demons. Simply put—this was a pretty powerful force.
To this day, Lorraine Warren is still haunted by Valak. The demon continues to show her visions of torture to her husband who passed over twenty years ago. While Lorraine now quietly resides in her home in Monroe, Connecticut that’s since been transformed into a paranormal museum, she has learned to cope with Valak. Her efforts to banish the demon have deemed themselves fruitless, and in recent interviews with the “Original Ghost Hunter” as some have referred to her as, she states that she feels as if Valak has become an odd type of family member.
Lorraine has not made efforts to communicate much with the demon because she knows that feeding into it will only force it to manifest itself in even bigger way, and in her old age, it’s probably best for her to keep Valak at bay.

Will The Nun movie that’s in the works accurately depict the infamous demon that’s plagued Lorraine Warren? We’re sure hoping so. We’re also really hoping to learn more information about this demon as The Lesser Key of Solomon isn’t very telling, and neither is Lorraine.
