As corny as this may sound, but this is why my SO is my best friend.
For a couple of weeks now my wife has asked me to get my spare computer going so she could play with me online. She’s not a gamer but she can appreciate them and we both grew up on the Mario and crash bandicoot. I guess the better way to say it, she’s a casual gamer and I'm more of an avid gamer.
If a game has multiplayer, we try to play together but get sick of it or she gets bored with it as well. Also time, we just don't have much time now. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to this as well. One game in particular which sometimes she watches me play and yell at my friends is PUBG. Never afraid to try new things she asked if we could set up my old gaming rig to play. I was actually surprised and didn’t think she would be into it.
So we did and it ran but pretty much on Low to Med settings and was pretty choppy. I had some spare computer parts lying around so we decided to build a computer together. Also rather than just build it she wanted to help put it together. Mind you, shes never been too interested in the ins and out of things so i was surprised she wanted to build it together
So we finally had everything to put together the computer. I was hoping to pretty much copy the same set up as mine but tried to stick to a budget as well. We opted for an i5 and a z370 by MSI motherboard. The PC is just going to be used for gaming thought the i5 would do just fine.
The case is a S340 Elite NZXT case, love it. I highly recommend getting the elite model just for the glass panel. It’s a little bit more but well worth it if you want to show it off.
The Motherboard is pretty clean, only had RED LEDs around the motherboard but that’s not an issue, wanted to try to make it stealthy anyways.
All fitted inside the case, was pretty easy as the case had built in fixtures for the board.
16gb of Ballistix RAM that I had already. Slight OCD as the black ram stick needs to go in the Red slots. She didn’t mind though.
We put everything else together, and pressed that on button and everything worked, it was a great moment!
I didn’t want to go into detail about how to build a PC but how much fun of a process it was. If it’s your SO or brother, sister, friend. It brought us closer and we can share this moment. I’ve been with my partner for nearly 11years now and we don’t have a secret recipe. You obviously don’t know much about her but I couldn’t be more proud of her for trying new things and willing to maybe even go out of her confort zone and listen to me for hours explain what each conponet does.
I just wanted to share this little memory with you all, and hopefully here some of your favourite memories as well.

It’s the best when you can share hobbies with your partner! Mine surprises me everyday with the things she’s willing to listen to me on and interact with. One example is I got her into football, so the Super Bowl isn’t “just for the commercials” anymore ☺️
Great narrative, and comfortable read for someone who knows nothing about this stuff other than the power button. It’s obvious you have a knack for inviting others into this “different” and challenging hobby.
hahaha that's great to hear, have you gone to any games together? My partner all of s udden started getting into basket ball because she went to see a game with a freind.
She took me to my first NBA game a couple years ago to see the Chicago Bulls play the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks were on their A game, so they spanked the Bulls but the energy is Chicago was incredible. Fortunately we both know basketball rules, but I had to point out players. “Yeah that dot running is D-Rose and we like him a lot” lol
That's awesome, building a PC is not as hard as most people think. it's a simple process but the feeling you get when you finish is great! I think everyone should build a PC with a friend, family, child. it's a real sense of accomplishment unlike a certain AAA game.
Yea, in the end its like we built that *High Five
