W dzisiejszym poście chciałabym, aby Ci,którzy są negatywnie nastawieni na Turcję poprzez pryzmat religii, przekonali się, że w kraju tym także inne religie mają swoją historię i korzenie, tak jak chrześcijaństwo,bowiem jego początki i ważne wydarzenia biblijne miały miejsce na terenie dzisiejszej Turcji.
Wpis ten nie jest wyłącznie dla osób religijnych lub chrześcijan. Przybliżając tutaj to antyczne miasto, chciałabym pokazać Turcję z innej perspektywy religijnej jak i dorobku historycznego.
In today's post I would like to convince people who have negative feelings for Turkey because of religion, that in this country also other religions have their own history and roots - like christianity. The beggining of christianity and important biblical events take place in today's Turkey.
This post is not only for religious people or christians. By having a closer look to that ancient city, I would like to show Turkey from different religion perpective and historical achievements.
Efez/Ephesus
Efez to antyczne miasto, znajdujące się w Selçuku, w Riwierze Egejskiej i jest jednym z najlepiej zachowanych miast starożytnych na terenie Turcji. Znajduje się godzine drogi od Izmiru i kiedy już jesteśmy w Selçuku bardzo łatwo z centrum dojechać tam tureckim dolmuszem.
Było to miasto bardzo ważne dla starożytnej kultury poprzez jedną z największych bibliotek w tamtych czasach (obok Alexandrii i Pergamonu), jeden z większych jońskich teatrów, jak i antyczne budowle. Znacie powiedzenie "Nie wchodzi się dwa razy do tej samej rzeki" i "Wszystko płynie"? Autor tych słynnych sentencji - filozof Heraklit, urodził się właśnie tutaj. Za czasów Oktawiana Augusta miasto było stolicą prowincji, która obejmowała tereny zachodniej Anatolii.
Jest to także miejsce ważne dla chrześcijan, gdyż to tutaj Słowo Boże głosił nawrócony św. Paweł, św. Piotr, a po ukrzyżowaniu Jezusa wierzy się, że razem ze św. Janem zamieszkała tam sama Maryja. Tu także zmarła i została wniebowzięta. Do dziś odbywają się pielgrzymki do domu Maryji, który jest obecnie kościołem-kapliczką. Niedaleko Efezu, na górze Ayasoluk znajduje się grób i bazylika św. Jana.
Efez to miasto zawarte w Biblii i to m.in tutaj św Jan pisał Apokalipse i jest to jedno z Siedmiu Kościołów Apokalipsy. Kiedy chrześcijaństwo się rodziło i było potępiane przez Imperium Rzymskie w Efezie przybywało wyznawców Chrystusa, którzy byli torturowani i zabijani, w Apokalispie Jezus zwraca się do Efezjan tak :
Znam uczynki twoje i trud, i wytrwałość twoją, i wiem, że nie możesz ścierpieć złych, i że poddałeś próbie tych, którzy podają się za apostołów, którymi nimi nie są, i stwierdziłeś, że są kłamcami. Masz też wytrwałość i cierpiałeś dla imienia mego, a nie ustałeś. Lecz mam ci za złe, że porzuciłeś pierwszą twoją miłość. Wspomnij więc, z jakiej wyżyny spadłeś i upamiętaj się, i spełniaj uczynki takie, jak pierwej; a jeżeli nie, to przyjdę do ciebie i ruszę świecznik twój z jego miejsca, jeśli się nie upamiętasz. Na swoją obronę masz to, że nienawidzisz uczynków nikolaitów, których i ja nienawidzę. Kto ma uszy, niechaj słucha, co Duch mówi do zborów. Zwycięzcy dam spożywać z drzewa żywota, które jest w raju Bożym (Ap 2:1-7)
Ephesus is an ancient city in Seljuk, Aegean Riviera region and it is one of the best preserved ancient city on turkish territory. It's one hour away from Izmir and when we arrived in Seljuk, it is so easy to go there from city centre by turkish dolmus.
It was really important city for ancient culture because of one of the biggest library those times (next to Alexandria and Pergamum), one of the biggest Ioanian theatre and other ancient buildings.
Do you know the proverbs "Do not enter twice into the same river" or "Everything flows" ? Author of these famous sentences - philosopher Heraklit, was born right here.
In times of Octavian August city was capital of province that included western Anatolia territories.
It is also important place for christians, right here converted saint Paul and saint Peter were spreading Word of God and it is believed that after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, saint John moved here with Virgin Mary. She was supposed to die here and be taken to heaven. Till now pilgrims are coming here to see Virgin Mary's house, that functions today as a church-chapel. Near Ephesus on the Ayasoluk hill we can see grave and basilica of saint John.
Ephesus is a city mentioned in the Bible and here a.o st John wrote the Apocalypse(Book of Revelation) and it is one of the "Seven Chruches of Apocalypse". When christianity started to be expand and was condemned, in Ephesus number of followers of Jesus Christ was rising. They were tortured and killed. In the Apocalypse part Jesus saying to Ephesians :
*2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6 But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.**

Oprócz tego w Efezie można zobaczyć ruiny łaźni, nimfeum, świątynie Hadriana i świątynie Domicjana.
Besides those, in Ephesus we can see bath ruins, nimpheum, Hadrian's temple and Domitian's temple
Niestety przez brak czasu(żbliżała się godzina zamknięcia) nie mogłam odwiedzić kaplicy Maryji i grobu św. Jana, które są oddalone od głównych zabytków miasta.
Unfortunetaly, time (close hour was coming) did not let me visit chapel of Virgin Mary and grave of st John. They are a bit distant from main monuments.
