are all reptiles with the same shell?

in #blog4 years ago

Hello all ! on this occasion we will discuss about shelled reptiles, namely turtles, turtles, and turtles. In Indonesia and several other countries are not familiar with the terms "tortoise" and "terrapin" because they are represented by the most popular "turtle". while in different countries the word "turtle" refers to species that live in marine habitats, "terrapin" for species that live in fresh water, and "tortoise" for species that live in terrestrial habitats. These, of course, are just generalizations, depending on where these shelled reptiles live. these terms may change, be used in different ways or not used at all. all is fine.

"TURTLE" (cheloniidae) turtles are animals that spend most of their life in the sea, they only return to land just to lay eggs, their flat and slender shells are ideal for helping them while swimming unlike their land-dwelling brothers who have pole legs and are sturdy, turtles have fin-shaped feet which make swimming more efficient although this actually makes walking on land more difficult in Indonesia we call them Turtles, turtles are omnivores and depending on the type, they eat jellyfish, small invertebrates, sea sponges or marine plants such as algae . The mother turtle will swim to the beach to lay eggs, the mother turtle will lay eggs once in a span of 2-4 years, they will go back and forth to the beach 4-7 times to release hundreds of eggs and bury them in the beach sand. After 45-60 days of incubation, hatchlings or baby turtles will emerge from the nest and head out to sea to start their new life. Over the last 200 years human activities have affected the survival of these old school swimmers, the turtle population has decreased due to over-hunting and exploitation, they are killed, cut open for eggs, meat, shells and shells, they also face habitat destruction and accidental fishing, climate change also affects the nesting sites of turtles, climate change changes the temperature of the sand which then affects the sex of baby turtles and will result in difficulty finding a mate. Most of the turtle species are now classified as endangered with three out of seven species being classified as endangered. there is currently a very endangered status.

"TORTOISE" (testudinidae) Tortoises generally live exclusively on land and are usually found in hot and dry environments, their shells are not slender like turtles but are dome shaped and have straight, stout legs and large claws. They are not good swimmers but will occasionally enter water bodies to clean yourself or just quench your thirst. although it is known that they eat a little meat tortoises are herbivores their food is plants with leaves or fruit that are near the ground, cacti, grass, weeds and other vegetation, a tortoise walks on its toes like an elephant this kind of walking attitude is called digitigrade they have claws large which makes them extraordinary diggers, some species can even dig up to 3 meters, their forelegs are usually protected with thick scales depending on the species.

"TERRAPIN" (emydidae) terrapin is a term for semi-aquatic turtles that live in fresh or brackish water, they tend to swim very often but also often spend their time on land basking in the sun and occasionally digging for mud, the name terrapin comes from the word 'torope' derived from algonquian which means small turtle, their hard shell is slightly slender but also slightly domed like a tortoise although they can swim they do not have turtle-like fin legs but feet that are similar to tortoises equipped with webs between the toes. Terrapins are omnivorous and their diet can consist of mollusks, small fish, crustaceans, insects, algae, and other aquatic plants. Unlike turtles, terrapins can pull their heads and feet into their shells. They can also lift their bodies and walk well.

SOFTWARE (trionychidae) Soft shell turtles are still included in the order testudinata, but they have their own family, namely trionychidae which is filled by 30 species of softshell aka soft shell, in Indonesia we know them by the name of softshell or turtle, most of the turtles live in Asia, the shells of sea turtles do not have hard and large characteristics like most turtles and bone architecture. Their shell is reduced, they have a long neck and slender head with an elongated snout like a proboscis with nostrils at the end, they often hide in mud, sand and shallow water. Most of the turtles are carnivores they actively seek and chase their prey. their flattened body shape may seem odd to an active animal, but in fact it is hydrodynamically efficient, propelled by its four strong webbed legs. Turtles are fast swimmers. Almost all soft-shelled turtles are delicious culinary delights for Asians, and to date all soft-turtles have decreased their population, habitat destruction and pollution not only destroy their habitat but also affect the availability of their prey, some species are also being hunted for use. For food and medicine, more than half of the turtle turtle species are listed as endangered. No matter how strong their shells are, no matter how fast they swim, the excess must be destroyed in the hands of humans, after millions of years they have passed will they survive another million years? that's it for my post this time, thanks for those of you who want to stop by here !!! let's find out what we don't know in the realm of this world!
