Pride is one of the main weaknesses of a human being and can happen to anyone, arrogance is a tabi'at syaithan that begins when they refuse to bow to Adam as when God Almighty ordered. A husband does it angrily, cursing or beating his son and wife because he feels he is feeding them. A boss does so by threatening his subordinates that his career depends on him. An official does so by threatening his policy critics. A pilgrim does so by declaring that his Islam has been perfect with hajj, whereas Islam is not merely a pillar of Islam. A Ustadz can also do it by saying: "It's a person if not because I'm not going to repent!". Even a beggar can do it by throwing away the coins we give.
The height of pride is the King of Pharaoh Egypt, where he claims to be a God worthy of worship, can live and kill sentient beings. When Pharaoh argued with Prophet Musa (as) that he was able to revive and kill people, he called two of his people and killed him and the other was left alive. Arrogantly he said: "Do not I like your Lord, can turn on and off humans". But, was Pharaoh able to revive the man he had killed ?.
If we examine ourselves, then nothing should be boasted. We are created with a drop of "Humble Water", we ourselves may be disgusted to hold or see it, maybe ants are happy to nourish it.
(He is God) who started the creation of man from the ground, then He made his offspring from the despised water (semen) (As-Sajdah 7).
Once we are whole human beings, all the holes in us are the places of discharge; nose, eyes, ears, mouth and both of our farji holes. As if in our bodies are filled with dirt.
Likewise after we die, if left a week alone causes a stench of bad smell and everyone will close his nose. Once buried will be enjoyed by earthworms and maggots, even some people are afraid to pass our graves.
There is nothing to be proud of in this world, treasures, thrones (positions), women (family), intelligence and beauty are temporary enjoyments that Allah lends to us and can be taken at any time by Allah Almighty. So many rich people instantly became impoverished by the flood, fire or robbery. Many important officials in an instant become ordinary citizens and reviled because of deposed or his shame revealed. Many happy families suddenly become miserable because their family (child, wife or husband) dies or divorces. How many people are smart but the age of 60 years is already senile. Many beautiful artist but at twilight his face began to wrinkle. It is easy for Allah to give or take away the pleasure.
One of the hallmarks of pride is those who do not want to be grateful for the blessings Allah gives to them. Enjoyment is not only wealth, but health, free time, halal sustenance, house near mosque, safe environment, good neighbor / friend, harmonious family, smart child or good wife / husband, all the pleasures often forgotten by us.
Those arrogant people will not be grateful for the blessings of Allah Almighty, they feel that all the success he earns is the result of his toil. He forgets that all he gained is the gift of Allah swt, as the form of Allah Almighty and Rahim. Gratitude to Allah is done by performing the duties of worship, abandoning the prohibition / penance and obeying all that Allah commands.
Another characteristic of pride is to reject the truth that is conveyed, he still argues in various ways as a justification for his actions that violate the Shari'ah of Islam, but he must be accountable for every action.
Verily Allah is beautiful and loves beauty, pride is rejecting the truth and belittling man (Muslim).
At the end of the night, there is nothing to be proud of in this world because everything is entrusted by Allah swt that can be taken back by the Owner of all nature. With pride we have destroyed ourselves, we are hated by our fellow human beings and in the Hereafter to be the losers.
