The architecture studio TRIAS designed the Slate Cabin for a writer in search of calm and silence. And the least we can say is that the location is perfect for this request. The small house is located in an isolated valley surrounded by hills and pastures crossed only by the wind.
The building responds to the difficult climatic conditions of the site while being composed of common materials of the region. The exterior is adorned with slate tiles applied like shingles, contrasting with the interior made entirely from birch plywood.
"In response to this beautiful but challenging landscape, the home is a minimalist black box anchored to the ground. It provides protection and respite to visitors wishing to escape wind, rain and snow. The main material used for the outdoors is Welsh slate, which is extracted locally and can be found in the surrounding mountains. The use of slate refers to the traditional buildings in the area, which usually have slate roofs. "
The entrance opens onto a room containing spaces for all main activities, with birch plywood used to create surfaces, storage areas and built-in furniture. It's simple and unadorned, but there's everything you need to stay comfortable, relax, write and read.
