Dissect it yourself (DIY) - Hive Whitepaper - Node, Key and Account Recovery

in #blog4 years ago

Node can be computers, laptops or servers. There are three types of nodes in Hive:

  1. Witness Nodes: producing and signing blocks, providing price feed, validating transactions.
  2. Seed Nodes: network entry points, connecting the freshly started node by peer-to-peer (P2P) connections.
  3. API Nodes: with an open remote procedure call (RPC) port, i.e., data (such as account transaction histories) on the network can be accessed by external application software.

Hive has four hierarchical keys: Owner Key (accounts, setting passwords), Active Key (transferring funds, voting), Posting Key (broadcasting posting transactions) and Memo Key (decrypting encrypted messages). When I signed up Ecency, I only got one key ( I think it is owner key.), so I have no idea of other three keys. Maybe you'll get the full sets of keys when you signed up other Hive Dapps. At very beginning, I naively thought I could use this key to sign in all other Hive Dapps (for example, PeakD, Discord and etc.). Look likes it is impossible.

Account recovery! This one is very important. Never thought an account can be recovered if it is compromised. Yes, it can be done if the period between the recovery and the password change or owner key regeneration is less than 30 days. Here is the link showing you how:

Voila.

My bread and right record: Today I have 0.059 HIVE, 100% Vote power, 0 Vote Value.

Hello, there!

First of all, I'd like to welcome you to Hive!

Never heard of Ecency until I visited your page. Gosh I didn't know hive is also a topic on that website. How long have you been on Ecency?

As you can see on my portfolio I have been around for a little over three years back when steemit was the first website of Hive. Even though I've been here that long, you know, I don't have a deep understanding of some technical terms, like 'nodes'. I had to google it. I knew I researched about it before but I never really had an interest in learning because I know I didn't have to but also good to know so it those words won't be jargon for me in the future.

Thanks for sharing this useful info, not everyone that joined here takes time to even learn the basics. =)

See ya around!

...and oh congrats on your first earning, way to go! ^_-

Glad it is useful. I have been here about two weeks. I am interested in Blockchain technique. Hive is the first blockchain I signed up. So I want first to study its whitepaper and share my opinion with others. At same time I doing a test to see Hive business model: I want to see how long to take me get $1 without any investment (given a year period). Therefore my voice is limited everyday and cannot reply you promptly.

One wrong statement above. My blog, Get 4 Hive Hierarchical Keys using Ecency password, will show you how to do it.
