There are many methods to combat procrastination, but it is worth highlighting the five basic ones, which each can be modified to suit their own needs.
The fight against procrastination is provided by the following methods:
Work with a to do list. In most cases, a person's personal effectiveness depends on how rationally he uses his time. Therefore, it is so important to plan your working hours in advance by writing a to-do list. Such a list is drawn up from different in importance cases that need to be performed on a particular day.
When forming a list of cases, it should be arranged in accordance with the expediency. You can use the Eisenhower matrix, dividing all cases into 4 categories, focusing on important and urgent tasks.
Where important matters are tasks, the fulfillment of which directly affects the personal well-being of a person, coincides with his personal goals and vital values.
Rejection of unnecessary tasks. Sometimes a person can postpone certain things for the reason that they have lost their relevance. Perhaps things remain important for implementation, but their relevance is lost in part. In this case, the struggle against procrastination is not expedient.
If you do not abandon the task of performing an irrelevant task and at the same time do not perform it, then it will be constantly in the field of view, divert attention and occupy part of the resources, directly as an open program in the computer. Such tasks need to be removed. If their implementation is impractical, then it is worth abandoning them or delegating them to other performers, if there is such an opportunity.
Often, small tasks, distracting the performer, become the main reason for not fulfilling even the most important and promising project on time.
Separation of the big problem. The breakdown of a large and complex task into several small "tasks" is a proven way to relieve psychological pressure and, moreover, an effective method of combating procrastination. In addition, the fear of failure is also broken down into several parts and becomes easily surmountable. It is desirable to make a breakdown of the task visually: either to paint all stages of implementation on paper, or use an electronic diary.
Workplace isolation. The workplace must correspond to its intended purpose.
It is extremely undesirable to clutter the workspace with waste paper. Do not store on your work computer programs of entertaining nature, interesting videos and movies, programs for correspondence with friends. Access to such temptations is seriously restricted.
After all, the same social networks have a negative impact on the performance of users, especially young people who are very dependent on a wide range of friends and acquaintances. Accept your imperfection. It is necessary to understand the simple truth that perfection is impossible. From a psychological point of view, perfection is only a representation of the situation, but not the situation itself. Perfectionism will always remain one of the main reasons for the emergence of procrastination.
But as Bryan Tracy said: "It's better to start bad than to be inactive". Therefore, one should strive to improve their skills, but do not forget that it is trials and errors that sharpen skills and lead them to perfection.
The conclusion. The fight against procrastination with an intelligent and consistent approach is simply doomed to success. Summing up, one can see that procrastination is a completely manageable bad habit, but with which one can fight. Using these methods, you can reduce the effect of this bad habit to a minimum. But the main step to overcoming it is to start acting right now.
