One of the most ridiculous things happening these days (and quite often historically) is the separation, judgment, blaming, shaming, and sometimes even violence against people based purely on a group identity.
The idea that someone's skin color, genitalia, place of birth, etc. is a major defining factor of who they are is quite flimsy on its own. Add to that the idea that they should somehow be held accountable for things that others who happen to fit into that same category have done or said, is even more ridiculous.
When someone blames "men" for the actions of one man, or "Arabs/Muslims" for the actions of one person, or any other category for the action of every other person that could be placed in that category, it's illogical & immoral. I am responsible for my words & actions. So are you. So is everyone else. NONE of us is responsible for the actions & words of anyone else.
I recently watched this wonderful video of Coleman Hughes being interview on The Rubin Report, which took a look at some of the ways these identity politics are being played in the US right now. I highly recommend it!
On an unrelated note, I'm very excited that @ELAmental has locked in a venue for a show he & I are hosting on November 30th, at the Geodesic Art Collective, featuring @AlaisClay, @Alexstacy, @ELAmental, and more!
It's going to be a great time, and I'm so happy for Alais' music to finally make it to Portland LIVE, just 4 years after I gave away 500 copies of her first album Reverse Hypnosis at PDX's Million Mask March.
I have been put in so many groups through my life that I tended to flee from all of them eventually. Individual responsibility is the only thing that makes sense.
I feel ya there. I always stayed away from groups myself, but folks still try to lump ya into 'em in their minds at least. Love you brother!
Funnily, I am happy to associate with the ideals of groups like TSU now. As a consciouss choice and not by guild through association.
When we're too busy engaged in "groupthink" then we neglect to respect the individual and acknowledge their own responsibility. It sure helps to fuel the us vs them trench warfare mentality.
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this !
It surely does, and I've found it quite annoying seeing people just go along with this divisive, simplistic mindset. Gonna just keep grinding away at empowering & educating the humans!
