Hey everyone, I thought it would be cool to record my thoughts and feelings going into this weekend. I have two shows coming up with the great Jenn B band (one in my home town and one in Groningen, northern Holland).
Excitement
I suppose first off and most obvious is the excitement that comes with playing. As I've stated before, I've played a lot of gigs, but the good thing is the excitement is still there. Gig day is still a sacred day for me, and a day that I have only one focus, playing music the best I can, the most beautiful I can and without restraint in anyway.
Nervous
I'm not sure if it's because I care so much about the music or something else, but I get nervous before every gig. I always think I can play better, prepare better or be in better shape physically for a gig. I think in some ways that's helped me a lot in always improving and expecting more from myself, but every now and then it would be nice to be relaxed for a show! I feel nervous about tonight more so than Saturday, we are playing one set Saturday, and the Nix is an intimate experience with a sophisticated audience. They will be watching.
Being Grateful
I really feel like I have the best job in the world, I really enjoy my job, not every day of course but most days, and when I enjoy my job, I love it. I am so grateful for the opportunities I've had, the opportunities I'm going to have and the ones I passed up. It's a wild ride this life of being a musician but it's a ride, and for me that means everything.
Anxious
I just wanna play! I just want the time to go by a lot faster. at the time of writing this, soundcheck is roughly 3 and half hours away. That feels like an eternity. Let's start this gig, let's start this concert and let's get some people dancing!
Thanks for reading, I will post my after thoughts, with some pictures and stories as there is always craziness at every gig.
Joel
Nice story Joel. My pre-gig ritual is usually the free 10 dollar bar tab I'm allowed for the evening.
Nice to meet you.
Thanks for the comment Jeff! Yeah having a bar tab is always a bonus!
