Walking Tour around my new Neighborhoods!

in #blog7 years ago

The weather isn't great, but still some sun and it's really hot so I thought I should go for a walk and why not show you around 'Viikki' where I have now lived with my girlfriend for about a month. (I guess summer has finally come to Finland, since it's cloudy yet hot outside.)

Viikki is a part of the eastern Helsinki, even though I'm living in the capital of Finland, 'a big city', there are places that take you away from all the tall buildings, the endless crowds of people and all the noises you normally feel/hear.

Viikki is a student village and that is the reason we moved here, my girlfriend is studying and the rent is much more affordable then elsewhere in the city. Lots of students live here and there are two major universities something about biology and the other one about agriculture. Which explains all the fields that Viikki is surrounded by.

I'll show you some pictures I took along my walk, enjoy!

The building most to the right is where we rent our apartment

grafitti1.jpg
Some cool street art up on the mountain side

bbqspot.jpg
This is a few steps back from where the earlier picture was taken, a nice little spot where you can have a barbecue

mountain2.jpg
A few more steps back and it looks like this, lots of trees and green

grafittit3.jpg
More street art, I find these places a little bit charming

road1.jpg
Continued my walk through the streets, that were mostly empty

road2.jpg
Found this interesting looking bridge which led to large fields of grass

horses.jpg
One of the fields were for the horses!

But most of them looked like this

road3.jpg
As I continued, I walk through roads like this

road4.jpg
This is the road leading to where all the buses goes by, takes me about 30minutes to get to the center of Helsinki

tiremonkey.jpg
Can you see what is made out of tires? My first thought was a gorilla, but I'm not entirely sure

library.jpg
Fancy library building, you can see some big plats on the inside

road5.jpg
The last road leading back to where I live, the stone wall on the left side separates the big road from this smaller road

home.jpg
Here we are, back home again, the building to the right is where I stay whit my girlfriend

It's more tempting going out for walks when you know you can get away from all noises and just enjoy the quiet nature.

Thanks for joining me on a tour around Viikki.

Until next time, have a great weekend folks!

Viikki looks like a pretty great place to live, or a place to go for a short weekend escape from bustling cities, and relax in a small town in Finland, away from the pollution, noise, and stress. Thank you for taking us on a tour around Viikki, followed you for more great posts like this! ;)

Exactly! So glad you liked it, I'm going on a trip to portgual in a few days, I'll write all about it later :)

Looking forward to it! :))

Thanks - I've always wanted to go to Finland - loved Moomin books, too. So interesting when people share their life like this :)

I have always liked Moomin too, had a great childhood growing up with lots of Moomin.

They were the best. Those Moomins affected my whole childhood. Snuffkin, indeed - she had the most wonderful imagination. Steem on :)
