Hi Everyone,
Most people including me are not good enough at memorizing or remembring
Here are my few thoughts on how to improve memory . Hope it will help us a bit. :)
- Developing our observation skills: Very few people including me are good at it. An observant person pays attention to detail and soaks it all up. All we need is to concentrate on one thing at a time, Which again never means to stick to it.
- Checking out what works best for us : Some prefer writing it down . For students mostly highlighting texts, taking notes, drawing an outline works best.
- A Simple rule, be attentive and create a mental picture of things:
According to researched complied by 3M, the corporation behind Post-it Notes, visuals are processed 60,000 times faster than text, which means you can paint a picture for your audience much faster with an actual picture..
So a mental picture of things is much needed to not forget things easily.
- Use of Mnemonics: Mnemonics aid original information in becoming more convenient and easy for the brain to have better retention of the information. These are amazingly helpful to memorizing terms.. For instance, We often used `The Red Man Inside the Violet Umbrella is an Expert Gambler` for remembering The electromagnetic spectrums in increasing order of their frequencies Radiowaves, Microwaves, Infrared, Visible light, Ultraviolet-rays, X-rays, Gamma rays. And funnily Some Lovers Try Different Positions That They Can`t Handle for SLTPTTCH which actually stands for Scaphold Lunate Triquetrum Pisiform Trapezium Trapezoid Capitate Hamete.. ;)
- Mind mapping: Mind mapping is a technique of note-making. This involves just to write down important terms in a piece of paper and relate them together. This allows you to know and think things in an organised manner and then presents in details with a big picture.
- Indulge in mind sports so as to train your brain: You can keep your brain active with certain games like Sudoku, Chess, Scrabble, Word Twist etc. These helps you a lot to in a long goal.
- Meditation: Meditation is very effective in increasing your concentration and calmness. It is a bit difficult for beginners but a good teacher can set you on track gradually. Try it, Feels good.
- Take care of your health: Exercise regularly, Eat nutritious food, Get enough sleep, Keep your cool. These are also indirectly important to remember things easily.
- Try to quit bad habbits: Stop smoking. Limit alcohol use. Excessive use of alcohol seriously affects short term memory.

I would add one very important element to improving your memory and that is good sleep. It is during sleep that memories are transferred from temporary storage to permanent memories. Nice write-up and great topic. Thank you. Following
