2018-02-17: We're Gonna Need a Bigger Bell

in #blog7 years ago

Shallow Thoughts

I missed yesterday's blog entry. I had a stressful sales call in the morning that supplanted my usual workout time, which was followed by a busy/productive day, and then capped off by a late workout. I had to choose between an hour of writing/curating and an hour of sleep. I'm pretty sure I made the right choice.

Deep Thoughts

I went to a local sporting goods store yesterday and picked up the following:

My previous pair of workout shoes had worn out so much that the impact of jumping rope was hurting the arch of my foot. Jumping in a brand new pair of shoes yesterday was a revelation. Note to self: don't be stingy with new athletic shoes, it'll always be much cheaper than a visit to the physiotherapist!

I also picked up a 40lb kettlebell since the 35lb version wasn't providing enough resistance in the workouts any more. I was expecting yesterday's workout to be much harder, but shockingly enouch, I blazed through it. I think that means I've gotten a lot stronger a lot faster than I had anticipated. It also means I'm going to need a 45-50lb kettlebell a lot sooner than a thought. My home gym is going to get a little crowded soon.

Speaking of which, this is what the "home gym" looks like:

It's a room just off the front door to my house that most people would normally use as a parlor or sitting room. There's no permanent equipment, just a yoga mat, a rack for hanging ropes and bands (and coats and leashes and ...), a couple wall anchors for band exercises, and some kettlebells. I like having it front and center in the house, makes it much harder to avoid the workouts.

Meat Thoughts

I'm also gaining weight pretty quickly on this program - hopefully it's muscle! I went to Costco today and picked up a pair of beautiful ribeyes. I did both the slow cook and the sear on the Big Green Egg today, here's what the sear looked like at 700F:

And the finished product:

Tomorrow I'll be doing the usual pulled beef chuck along with a few baked potatoes. Gotta feed the workouts!

Smart choice to get new shoes! Almost all leg and hip injuries can be attributed to bad shoe support. Very nice rib eyes, they will contribute greatly to your gains! And lastly nice home gym, I'm sure you get great calisthenics exercises in! I try to post a lot about fitness and health.

I was doing some squat jumps as part of yesterday's workout and realized on every landing how badly worn my previous shoes were. I'll certainly be more mindful of my body's feedback in the future.

And I'm a huge fan of clean red meat as a protein source. . . steakhouses use way too much butter and salt, I think ribeyes can be very healthy if the preparation is simple.

wow

amazing..post

I agree with you, rather than the wound of our feet, fixing us buy new shoes, because the sport is not expensive, let alone for our health,

Keeping up with many things is really hard. But I wish everyone should do the right thing. Health should come first always. Btw the beef looks Yammy @grolelo

Indeed, health should ALWAYS come first. . . if I don't have my health, all the money/knowledge/wisdom/power in the world won't matter at all.

Yes, I totally agree with what you say, do not be stingy to buy needs for yourself ..
I really like your way of life ..

Unfortunately I tend to err on the side of being too cheap/stingy, which is ultimately very short-sighted. That mentality has helped me to save/invest a decent amount of money, but I'm at the point in my life when I need to start enjoying the fruits of my labor.

Good to see u posting again...! 🤗

sometimes all u need is a really sound and refreshing sleep to start ur day with full of energy...!!!
ur home gym setup is kinda cool, at least better than my garage gym...! 😄

btw keep hold on ur alcohol count...!

Stay blessed 😇

Yeah, a big sleep makes a big difference. I've actually had two in a row now, which is a rare luxury for me. If I get one more, I might turn into a superhero ;-P
