The above photo was taken when I took my son to the Singapore Science Centre. It is called the Fire Tornado Show.

The show allows us to watch the flames spin in a towering vortex over 600 degrees Celsius.

It gives kids to have a close contact with fire and how tornado is created with winds moving in different speeds and directions at different altitudes causing the rising air to spin.

As a teacher, I am currently teaching many with learning difficulties and special needs. Just imagine that there are 12-year-old kids that do not even know how to add and subtract.

These 12-year-old kids are going to take their Primary School Level Examination to determine the Secondary School they can qualify during the last week of September this year.

With low motivation and disengagement, leading them to experience little successes can really motivate them to learn.

I am also planning to have differentiated approach once weekly. Allowing those who are better to use the ipad with self-directed learning online while pupils with difficulty in their 4 operations(Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide) to get personal attention from me to get them to understand the basic concepts of the 4 operations to close learning gaps.

I must agree that it is really tiring for most teachers and many of us need to find ways to help pupils with some needs that may be even beyond our control like broken families and home abuse.

We do what we can and what we do may just be a turning point for some of these kids. Perhaps many years later, they would come back as adults to tell us what we have done have made a difference in their lives.
