The original idea with this Steemit blog was that it would be given as a gift. Our ponies would blog until Christmas, and then during this season of giving, the Steemit blog & password keys would be passed over to the management, and children. The original intention was to use the STEEM as charity for the ponies, to provide unique gifts like horsey headphones, carrots, and special days out.

The meaning behind "don't look a gift horse in the mouth"

Don't be ungrateful when you receive a gift.

Proverbs are 'short and expressive sayings, in common use, accepted truths or useful advice. The original proverb in 1546 "No man ought to looke a geuen hors in the mouth." is traced back to a chap called Heywood, who obtained the phrase from a Latin text of St. Jerome, The Letter to the Ephesians, circa AD 400.

'Noli equi dentes inspicere donati'

Translated this means "never inspect the teeth of a given horse". Where St Jerome got it from we will never know. As ponies develop, they grow more teeth, existing teeth begin to change shape and project further forward. Determining a horse's age by its teeth is possible by an expert. Which is the source of another teeth and age related phrase - long in the tooth.

The advice given; 'don't look...' relates to receiving a gift, and being grateful for what it is; don't imply you wished for more, assessing the value of the gift. The intention of all gifts is to give love & smiles. When we disrespect the giver, and invade their personal space, after their giving many times over, we have to realise that our giving is in vain, and we shall impart no more gifts.

It is unfortunate that our human management act with this disrespectful and devious scheming intent, without respect for personal property and personal privacy, so we have reached our conclusion that there will be no more giving, no more co-operating with such unsavoury characters. Therefore, with a heavy heart for the slaves of the fields, we must discontinue our pony blogging, and power down the STEEM for a more worthy cause, where it will be truly appreciated.
