Mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, girlfriends, friends… each one of us has amazing women in our lives. We value and appreciate these women each and every day. Their choices and their opinions matter, and so does their health. Amongst the applicants who stood out this year is the . This incredible organization has been a part of the Chicagoland community for decades and we chose them as our May charity partner.
The Chicago Women’s Health Center (CWHC) was founded in 1975 by a group of health care providers, counselors, and health educators troubled by unjust gynecological disparities here in Chicago. These early members believed that health care was a right, not a privilege, and that gender inequity was a serious barrier to respectful health care. The history of CWHC embodies a dynamic story of the women’s health movement and feminism in Chicago, lending CWHC strength and perspective as a leader in reproductive justice and health care.
With over 6,000 patients annually, CWHC treats clients as unique individuals, helping them enhance their knowledge and understanding about their own health care needs. This encourages clients to be self-advocates and active participants in their own health care.
Today, both health care and women’s rights are at risk and we want to do everything we can to help. Flowers For Dreams feels it is imperative to support CWHC’s mission “to facilitate the empowerment of women and trans people by providing access to health care and health education in a respectful environment where people pay what they can afford.” A place where no one is denied service, regardless of ability to pay.
Join us in supporting The Chicago Women’s Health Center. Every bouquet purchased throughout the month of May helps fund critical cancer screenings, contraception, counseling and more for low-income women.
