The most lethal islands in the world where you would not last a night alive

in #blog7 years ago

Evoke an island leads us to the image of paradise with white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and tall palm trees. A place where anyone would want to spend a long holiday season, or even a lifetime.

However, there are some islands that very few people want to visit, because they are absolutely dangerous and probably would not last a night live in them.

Big Burned Island

Off the coast of the state of San Pablo, Brazil, there is an island of 43 hectares. This portion of land is completely inhabited by snakes of the snake family.

Different studies cite that the island could harbor a population between 430,000 and more than 2,000,000 vipers. It is curious that, although there are other types of snakes on the island, vipers have this unique habitat in Brazil, whose government prohibits civilians from entering the island although scientific expeditions are allowed as it is an important serpentarium world.

Island of Gruinard

In the west of Scotland, in the Sea of the Hebrides, this island is located. It was chosen by the British Government in 1942, during the Second World War, as a place to test bombs with anthrax bacteria, and then use them in Germany.

The tests were so lethal and the contamination with the bacteria was so strong that the UK decided not to use those weapons and abandoned the project. After 50 years of expensive procedures to decontaminate the island, the British Government declared it safe to live. No one wants to live there, because it is presumed that there could still be anthrax spores on site.

Poveglia Island

In the Lagoon of Venice, there is an island of 7.25 Ha. In Roman times, it was used as a place where they sent all the sick people because of the plague.

Then, at the beginning of the fourteenth century, when Europe was plagued by the bubonic plague, it was again used as a place to dispose of the sick, but due to the overpopulation of people sick with the plague, the decision was made to put the bodies in even children and adults alive to wells, and set them on fire. It is estimated that around 160,000 people died; years later, the island was abandoned

Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands

Bikini Island, or "Coco surface", in the dialect of these islands, is the largest of the 36 islands bordering a lagoon of about 600 km2 and make up the atoll of the same name. The Marshall Islands are United States territory and due to its remote location in the Pacific Ocean, the Bikini Atoll was used by the United States for its nuclear tests between 1946 and 1958.

More than 23 nuclear weapons were detonated in 7 locations, including aerial, submarine and surface explosions. The effects of massive radiological contamination continue to this day.

Sentinel Island North

Sentinel North is an island belonging to the Archipelago of the Andaman Islands, belonging to India and located in the Indian Ocean. It is the home of a tribal group whose number is estimated between 50 to 400 individuals approximately. This group rejects, through violence, any type of attempt to contact them.

There is no record of physical occupation of which the inhabitants of the island have recognized the sovereignty of India. It was said that the inhabitants of the island practice cannibalism with people who try to approach it, this being the main reason why it was not possible to have a closer approach with this small tribe.
