The Ecological Benefits of Bark

Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you have a weekend full of positive experiences! In my new post, I would like to talk about nature and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.

Here you can see pictures which I took today from the bark of trees and bark is the outer layer of trees which consists of several layers and is intended to protect the tree from external influences and weather. The two most important layers of trees are called bast and bark and the bast is responsible for transporting substances produced by photosynthesis and most of them are carbohydrates such as sugar solutions and via this part of the bark it is transported through the whole tree to make growth possible. In the past, there were often views in mythology that there is under the bark the flesh of the tree and so without the bark the tree would lack an important protective mechanism which is also extremely valuable from an ecological point of view for and under the bark numerous insects such as beetles or larvae build their nest and many of them at the same time offer a source of food for birds and especially bird species such as the woodpecker have focused on it. When some animal species no longer find food and the leaves have fallen to the ground, they begin to eat the bark and often hide in the cracks of the bark and you can find even bees, spiders and many more insects there and bark also has the ability to store moisture at the same time and thus ensures that it is dry in the residence of the insects. Depending on the tree species, the structure of the bark also distinguishes and thus also the ecological benefit and with some tree species the bark has a better protective function than with others and even if you do not recognize it at first glance, there is often a huge life under the bark and also the age plays an important role and it can be said that with increasing age the ecological value of trees also increases.

I myself have noticed that many trees have similar holes in them and after reading today's post my knowledge has increased.

It is really so important for the tree and of great ecological importance :)
