Democracy has not kept pace with technology

in #blog7 years ago

Our political and private groups are not truly democratic. Democracy has not kept pace with technology.
Unable to participate we watch from the sidelines as laws, budgets and policies are enacted unlilaterally without our consent.
This lack of participation scales up from our small private groups all the way up to our federal electoral districts.

During the 2016 California Presidential Primary race, Von Hougo, an eighth grade science teacher, ran as a Republican using a platform that emphasized the importance of voters being aware of the legislation that is passed on their behalf. it would allow voters to voice their opinion on every bill before the legislature. Each bill would be outlined with the pros, cons, benefits, risks and cost analysis. You would be able to vote and show the statewide results in real time. You would be able to specify your level of involvement and would be sent texts and/or email notifications. He was suppose to be working with California-based tech companies developing this platform. Unfortunately, he lost his bid for this office but his Facebook site seems to be still pushing his ideas and promoting a platform called Democracy 2.0. I have put links below. Technology may be catching up.
