First Splinterlands Quest

in #blog4 years ago

I set out to complete my first quest yesterday by winning 5 matches with the Death deck. Things went well initially. I won the first match and earned some DEC for the first time - 0.067! I don't know how much that's worth, but I was happy to get it.

I had a few more victories after that and progressed from Novice League to Bronze League, which apparently means I'll get 5 Loot Chests later on?! Very cool. I'm hoping my DEC rewards will be higher now that I've moved up a League.

My brief winning streak was nice while it lasted, but it was bound to end quickly. As soon as I was up against players who actually knew what they were doing, the winning streak was over and the losing streak began. 9 losses in a row! I wasn't surprised to be losing so much, but I was surprised I didn't get booted out of the Bronze League straight away.
I did manage to learn a bit more about the game from watching the other players. Mostly that I needed better cards. I also noticed that I was really getting stomped when the other player had selected monsters with higher speed. I hadn't been paying much attention to speed before when choosing my monsters, so I'll keep a closer eye on that attribute. I should also come up with a strategy for low Mana cap matches because panicking and choosing cards at random isn't working out.
All of this losing took a while and towards the end I was rushing through picking the monsters and clicking 'skip to results' as soon as the match started instead of paying attention to how things were playing out. I was too sleepy for it and knew I wouldn't be able to remember anything later on. When I finally managed another victory, I wasn't even sure why I'd won. I was glad it happened, though, as it meant I only needed to win 1 more match to complete my quest and then I could get some sleep.
I had another losing streak after this win and rushed tiredly through it, not learning anything. It was brief at least, only lasting about 3 or 4 matches.
Finally a player surrendered before the match could begin, so it counted as a victory for me and the quest was complete! My total earnings were 0.75 DEC, plus a brand new card as a reward for completing the quest.
