Aromatherapy // Healing the body with natural essential oils 🌿

in #blog7 years ago

Hey Guys!

Today I wanted to talk with you guys about Aromatherapy and the healing benefits that comes from using essential oils. It is believed that Aromatherapy is dated back centuries ago to Egyptians. The Egyptians were known to be perfumers, mastering how to extract essential oils from flowers, leaves, grass, fruit, and many other natural substances. The Egyptians connected perfumes or scents with the gods, spirituality, mental and physical health. Scents can elicit so many different emotions, feelings and memories in people - and everyone can have a different experience with a certain scent.

Essential oils can be used to transform, stimulate and enhance different moods while also healing common illnesses and emotional traumas. You can use just one essential oil or you can blend many different essential oils together. Below I will list some essential oils and the healing benefits associated with each one.

Lavender - Promotes feelings of relaxation. Every night before bed, I rub a drop or two of Lavender oil on my temples on my head and it helps me relax and fall into a deep sleep. Lavender is also good for helping relieve pain, treating skin disorders, and improving digestion and blood circulation.

Eucalyptus - Anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory. Eucalyptus oil is great to add to a hot bath or use an Epsom salt blend that includes Eucalyptus oil, to promote muscle relaxation and reduce inflammation while soaking in the tub. While Luke had the flu, he had a 104 fever, so I massaged coconut oil mixed with Eucalyptus oil and Peppermint oil to reduce his body temperature and lower his fever. Eucalyptus oil is also used to help treat inflammation of the respiratory tract, asthma and sinus pain. I was sick this past week with a head cold and I put a dab or two of Eucalyptus oil underneath my nostrils that were stuffed up and the oil would help clear the mucus out.

Tea Tree - Tea Tree essential oil has many different benefits and uses including helping acne, dandruff, fungal infections, bacterial infections, soothing bone pain as well as helping relieve chest ingestion. I have used Tea Tree oil on cuts and open wounds to help with the healing process, to help treat acne as well as mosquito bug bites, and have used shampoo with Tea Tree oil infused in it to help prevent lice.

Frankincense - Frankincense essential oil can be used to help fade stretch marks and scars, boost immune system, heal wounds faster, lower anxiety and stress, and can help during a woman's menstrual cycle. I have not tried using Frankincense during my menstrual cycle because I'm normally hunched over in a ball in my bathroom throwing up from the extreme amounts of pain I endure through my menstrual cramps. However, when I know that I am close to starting my period, I am going to start wearing Frankincense essential oil to help combat the pain.

Chamomile - Used to help soothe the mind and reduce feelings of anxiousness which can lead to depression or insomnia. Chamomile essential oil has many health benefits that include helping reduce the feelings of anxiousness, boosting heart health, promoting a good night's sleep, fighting feelings of nausea, as well as helping with digestion problems or leaky gut. I normally drink Chamomile in hot tea to receive it's beautiful health benefits although, I do love to use an Epsom salt blend that includes Chamomile essential oil in it which leaves me feeling calm and relaxed after soaking in a hot bath.

Peppermint - Peppermint oil can be used to soothe bone pain, open airways, provide an energy boost, relieve headaches, ease stomach discomfort, or can even be used to curb hunger. I like to dab Peppermint oil onto my temples if I have a headache to help soothe the pain or I drink Peppermint tea to help with tummy troubles. See story above about how I used Peppermint oil to help reduce my boyfriend's 104 degree fever.

Essential oils and Aromatherapy have been around for decades and can provide many health benefits. I know it may sound woo-woo at first, however, once I started using Essential oils to help with health issues, I saw a major difference! I now incorporate essential oils into my everyday life and I couldn't imagine going through a headache without Peppermint oil or going to sleep without putting a few dabs of Lavender oil on.
