Wimbledon: FEDERER CLAIMS 89TH WIN FROM 100 MATCHES

in #blog7 years ago

Is there anything this guy hasn't achieved in Tennis? That was a rhetorical question. He is an amazing talent, who like a fine wine, gets better with age. At 35 there is no slowing down it seems. His fitness, his agility, his mental strength is second to none. He has been able to play at a consistent level for many years with only a few months out here and there with injury.

To win 89 matches at Wimbledon alone, out of a possible 100 matches is absolutely mind boggling, some professional tennis players wouldn't ever win 89 matches in their whole careers, let alone on only one surface.

To record his 89th Wibmledon win, Federer has claimed victory in straight sets in the quarter final match up against Milos Raonic, the same guy that beat him at Wimbledon last year in the Semi's. At that stage, Federer was not at his best, yet still able to play in the semi's. Fast forward 12 months he is in a position where he will potentially claim his 8th Wimbledon title, more than any other player before him. Reason being, Nadal and Murray have been knocked out and Djokovic retired from the tournament  due to an injury sustained in the quarter's against Berdych. These players are undeniably the 'other' best players in the game at the moment. My belief is, regardless of whether or not these players were still competing, Federer would still remain in the box seat to take out the title.

After confirming that he wouldn't play the clay court season, his focus was solely on preparing his body for the grass court season. It has definitely paid off, winning the Gerry Weber Open and now potentially his 8th Wimbledon.

Call me Bias, but I believe he is and will always be the greatest to ever play the game of tennis.

what are your thoughts fellow @steemit friends? Is he the greatest and do you think we will see him hold the trophy on Sunday?
