Blog: First Three Months in Crypto

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

I don't think I have ever learned so much in the last 3 months. Back in late August, I knew ZERO about Cryptocurrency and when co-workers would discuss the topic, it was way over my head. So in late August/early September, I finally decided to jump on Coinbase and finally buy some Bitcoin. Then I did what everyone else does, I turned to Google and YouTube to learn more about my newly acquired Bitcoin.

I then discovered topics like lending, staking, mining and I was pretty excited to try some of these things out. I even tried to write a simple NodeJs application that would mine Monero using CoinHive on Heroku. I was excited to share it (Open Source) on GitHub and hoped others might be able to help contribute and I could learn from people with way more experience. Good idea right? Turns out that doing CPU mining on cloud technologies like Heroku is a big NO, NO! Like an idiot, I didn't even bother to see if Heroku would allow this. Of course, I was sorry and apologized to Heroku. Thankfully, I still have my Heroku account and removed that GitHub repository.

This is just one example of the lessons I have learned in the last 3 months. On the positive side, I am excited to now understand the technical side of a financial graph. I was also able to figure out how to use a hardware wallet!

I am very interested in staking coins and trying to figure out how it works. I know I will make mistakes but I hope one day I can look back at this and be proud of the experience. I still have so much to learn and the only way to grow is to make mistakes. The key is, you need to learn from your mistakes to become better.
