I am pretty sure we all had, at least once, an argument on how to hang the toilet paper LOL.
Fortunately (while I've never googled what could be the right way), I've stumbled upon an article on Inc whereby they've scientifically justified the right way to hang the toilet paper. If you ever had this argument with your spouse or a family member, share this post with them :)
The first way to hang the toilet paper is "Over" and the second way to hang the toilet paper is "Under"
So is it "Under" or "Over"?
The
right
way
to
hang
the
toilet
paper
is
"OVER"
The scientific reason, in short, is:
If the toilet paper is hung "over", [a restroom user's] fingers only touch the toilet paper that they'll be using, which will subsequently be flushed. However, if the toilet paper is hung "under" there's a good chance their fingers will brush the wall as well, leaving a deposit. If so, every subsequent restroom user who reaches for toilet paper runs the risk of not only of picking up the bacteria that's been deposited already, but also leaving more for the next user to pick up.

Still doubt it should be hung "over"? Here is another article that argues the same: http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/organizing/tips/a27506/right-way-to-hang-toilet-paper/
But what about this way of hanging toilet paper!? lol
Do you hang it whereby you pull the paper to the "left" or hang it so you pull the paper to the "right" :)
