One who eats alone cannot discuss the taste of the food with others. ~African Proverb

My faith, race and character; had all pushed me into a secluded life style early in life. As a child and as a teenager, I didn't just seem to fit in with every one else. Growing up in an orthodox home, I was closely monitored, spanked once in a while and given rules to abide by. I was constantly reminded "you are not of he world". I heard it so much that it made me feel that every one else was human and I was sub-human. I know my parents didn't intend to create such an effect, but obviously it counter reacted. Things just happen.

Entering my teenage years, I had a very poor relationship with my father and had little or no friends. After a while, I learnt that my type of a person was called ' a loner'.

Loner: one who is alone, lacking or avoiding the company of others.

It was an interesting life. I would say I knew most of what people thought(because they would likely say it out), but they would have to guess real hard to know what I thought. Fantasies was also a great part of my experience, coupled with reading books and watching lots of tv.

Though I could tag that phase of my life as being interesting, I wouldn't say it was satisfying. Low self esteem tormented me every once in a while and it felt like I didnt have a voice.

Am different now, and though am still slightly introverted, am not that loner anymore. I write today's column on African proverbs to help maybe just one person who thinks sticking to your fantasies and your self, is the best life. You haven't lived your best life yet. Let the world hear you. Find expession by doing what you love and accepting that your different, but in a good way. Join a community. Enjoy life while it lasts and don't be scared to be heard. And most of all, pursue your dreams.

Proverbs have inspired me for a long time. There is so much wisdom in them. My father always told me a few every now and then. Hope to share my thoughts from this daily with you.

Being an art lover, I'll also be featuring art from @artzone, just as my little way of promoting art here on steemit.

What are your thoughts on this proverb? What do you think it means? Feel free to share below.

To be a creative artist is mostly doing it alone, company only brings stuff that gets in the way...

You do have a point. I have found to be more comfortable and found creative expression when am alone. But asides this, it doesn't mean we should shut people out of our lives. A little seclusion is healthy for recuperation but too much will not help us or the world at large.

Thanks for stopping by. I truely appreciate.
