If you have a camera connected to the Internet, you should change your password as soon as possible.
China's CCTV has warned that for only 188 yen ($ 28), you can buy software that will allow you to hack Internet-connected cameras.
Such programs can easily penetrate these vulnerable devices, which are commonly used as child monitors and surveillance cameras at home.
Hackers in China have also created large groups on social networks to provide user names and passwords to access those cameras.
According to a report released by CCTV, lists of nearly 500 Webcams with a user name and password are shared every day for free and hundreds of people download and use them to market the program and gain widespread fame.
Information security experts have said that owners of these cameras, who do not change the default user identity or passwords, are exposing themselves to greater risk.
Eugene Asif, vice president of engineering at data protection company Acronis, says the cameras are porous because many of them use similar firmware. Users should avoid using default device settings and frequently update their device drivers.
The expert said:
After you get your web camera, you can spend some time checking its settings, since the password is similar for many devices and is the main flaw that is adopted by the attackers.
