An interesting theory is that miners will move to what pays them most, therefore making original bitcoin ideas gather hash-power and adoption. But I do not completely agree with this theory.
People will move to what is best for variety of reasons, knowing eventually it may eclipse all else. Two reason to give up temporary higher rewards: convenience, ethics and effort/time to get reputation.

Not necessarily. Bitcoin Cash has been more profitable the last 3 days, and there have still been plenty of miners who continued to mine the legacy chain even though it was less profitable to do so.
Just saying, there are more factors involved.
