The 30 day extension was just an example for price comparison against a new delegation. You can extend for arbitrary amounts of time (for example 1 day to 1 year). It's pretty linear for extensions, so a 90 day extension costs 3 times as much as a 30 day extension. And a 15 day extension costs half of a 30 day extension. Our site provide an estimate for 30 day and 90 day extensions of the delegation as a base line (see the second picture on the post).

Ok so it's still buying x amount of time. 'The more you pay the more time you get' is the same thing technically, it just sounded weird to me. Thanks for clarifying.
