We get a lot of questions from new customers about how to use our service to gain access to the Steem community, so we've decided to write up a little tutorial for it!
From our main page click "Buy Steem Account" under the "Steem" pulldown menu, or go there directly
Choose your account name
Enter your desired account name under "Step 1" and make sure our system responds with "Account name is valid." Your account name must be 3-16 characters long, can only be comprised of lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes, must begin with a letter, and must end with a letter or a number.
Write down the password that has been generated for you!
We cannot stress this enough: if you lose this password and do not have a backup saved somewhere then there is no way to recover your account. We also recommend typing it manually, as opposed to copying and pasting, into the confirmation box to verify that you have it 100% correct.
We understand that keeping track of a piece of paper can be a hassle, so we offer two password backup solutions for you:
First, you can download your master password (as well as owner, active, posting, and memo keys) as a convenient plaintext file to your personal computer. For an added layer of security we recommend burning this information to a CD or copying it to a flash drive and physically storing it in a lockbox, as opposed to on a computer that likely contains a wealth of other personal information.
Alternately, if you have registered your email address with us (instructions and benefits forthcoming in a future installment) you can opt to have us store a copy of your password in our secure database.
A disclaimer: Although our servers are secure and we have multiple backups, there is always the chance that something goes wrong. As such this service comes with no guarantees, but we still want to offer what we can to protect our customers from their own potential for accidental data loss. And if you're worried about security: Dan himself curates these records!
Payment
Select your method of payment from one of our supported cryptocurrencies (for this example we will be using ETH) and input an amount of Steem that you wish to receive to start your new account. Our system will calculate how much you need to send, then click "Get Deposit Address" for instructions on how to transfer this money to us. Keep in mind that this is explicitly the amount of money we need to receive to create your account and that there may be blockchain fees to be paid on your end to initiate the transaction. This means that cryptocurrencies with lower transaction fees will inherently be more efficient in this regard than others.
We currently recommend a starting balance of at least 10 Steem to be "powered up" into Steem Power so that you don't get hit with bandwidth caps when posting comments or upvoting posts, but SteemIt is reworking their code to run on generated "Resource Credits" so this may change in the very near future.
At this time we do only support cryptocurrencies as a form of payment, so if you are trying to buy a Steem account with fiat currency you will need to first exchange that on another market. We do hope to eventually expand our services into fiat currency, and we promise that we will let you all know when that launches.
Our system will generate either a deposit address or a memo to attach to your transfer, depending on the type of cryptocurrency you are using, and give you a minimum amount to send to that address to create your new Steem account.
Please note that we do not have any control over market fluctuations, so to be safe we recommend that you send at least 10% more than this minimum amount to ensure that your account is created successfully. If your transaction gets rejected by the Steem blockchain as insufficient then we will not refund your lost money. Although we have refunded these in the past, these particular support issues have unfortunately outgrown our ability to process them.
Once your transaction has confirmed on the blockchain you will immediately be able to log in to your new Steem account at http://steemit.com/@youraccountname. You will not receive a confirmation email when your Steem account has been created, but if you are signed in to your blocktrades.us account you will be able to track your transaction to see when it has successfully completed. You can also track your input transaction on one of the many available block explorers.
Check us out next Friday where we'll be going over the basics of how to use our service to trade cryptocurrencies, especially buying and selling your Steem/SBD, plus some tips for trading more efficiently!
Best regards.

I dont understand... why would anyone buy a steemit account, cant you just make one for free?
Good question!
A Steem account costs 3 Steem to make regardless - this is a fee that is imposed by the blockchain itself. When you sign up for a "free" account through https://signup.steemit.com/ then SteemIt is actually paying this fee for you in exchange for some personal information (such as, I believe, your phone number and email address). It also takes a week or two to process.
Purchasing an account through our service, however, is instantaneous and very fairly priced - we pass along the fee of 3 Steem to the customer and charge an additional 1 Steem for ourselves.
Also, as a side note: the free accounts handed out by Steemit are actually funded with less real steem, instead it's mostly delegated steem. This means the free acount they hand out is worth less than 3 steem as the delegation is ultimately temporary.
Makes sense. Thanks for answering.
Wow! This is something they never put into the FAQ or Intruduction section!!
Thanks for all the information!!
You are really doing great work!
I do appreciate your very nice effort in the community!
Cheers.
@blocktrades I sent the payment about an hour ago. How long does it take to have the account activated ?
@blocktraders-help good explanation to make us understand and like many of us are new to steemit platform.
@blocktrades-help if I sent the payment about an hour ago how long does it take to have the account activated ?
I did it for a friend and it was stress free! Thank you.
But I feel it might be difficult for new users who may have stumbled on steemit through search engines. They would be lone rangers who's got no friend that can help.
We absolutely understand this, and we're hoping that through this series of blog posts we can ease the onboarding process for new Steemians, and users new to cryptocurrency and BlockTrades as well.
@autofreak Thanks for encouraging new users. I am new to steemit and learning from such people like you. Thanks for your patience with all new users
When blocktrades will lower steem delegation price...It is too much costly now.
@blocktrades, when is the ridiculously overpriced delegation going to go back down?
It’s funny how you went from instant sellouts, and now you haven’t had to remove it once since no one is dumb enough to buy a delegation at these prices.
We did have some supply issues to begin with, but we made the decision to increase our investment in Steem Power and the Steem blockchain to be able to supply the volume that was in demand. Currently we provide 3 milllion delegated SP to the Steem community!
Hi @blocktrades , @blocktrades-help , your answer doesn't address the actual initial question.
P.S. Also, do you fulfill lease requests on @MinnowBooster? I recently requested a lease for one of my other accounts at about a 30% better rate than on BlockTrades.us ... but it seems it was filled by @blocktrades ... or am I imagining things? If I'm not.. why not offer delegation at same or better than you are matching on MinnowBooster?
Is it possible to convert a free account to paid, or I would need to create a new account?
No account is free. Its just that steemit pays the fee to create your first account you get through them, in exchange for information about you in order to avoid abuse of this service.
So can I convert it to paid account snd will this increase my steem power?
There is no difference between a paid and a free account once created beyond the resources that the creator gives you at the beginning and the initially assigned "trustee" (which defaults the the account that created yours). After creation you may add Steem, SP, or purchase a delegation if you need more.
Your trustee can also be changed by creating an order for it on the blockchain and then waiting 30 days, however this process requires knowledge of the CLI and is beyond the scope of the services that we provide.
Thank you for this valuable information. Just one more query does only adding steem into one account would increase reputation or it is really about the activeness and good content which will be liked by others? Thanks again.
A lot of it is about building a following, similar to any blog, but a little bit of Steem Power can definitely help you get started.
We also sell delegations, which are like a lease on SP.
Thank you for clarifying.
votes me.please
I have learnt a lot
Looking forward to this:
I did not know you sell Steem accounts. great!
forgot to tell you I resteemed this great info.

Well iam pretty impressed by your services @blocltrades because iam using your services to sending my Cryptocurrencies and that works smoothly without any tension, and i also recommends your account creation service to my all friends who wants to get their steeemit Account instantly and i have one question :- How you guys decide the account creation fees ?
The first 3 Steem actually ends up in your account as Steem Power, which gives you just enough to start interacting with the Steem blockchain. You'll generally need a little more than this to really start posting and commenting, but it's sufficient that you won't be totally locked out (which can happen - if you have 0 SP then you won't even be able to initiate a transaction to "Power Up" your Steem)
The final, fourth Steem we take as a fee for our service.
But i have a question that whenever we creates a Account on Steemit then we automatically receive 15 steempower as a temporary Delegation from Steemit for enable us to do Comments and Posts, so in your service we get those 15 sbd Delegation or not at the starting ?
This is what @blocktrades was referring to in an earlier reply.
When we create an account we actually give you your 3 Steem back as Steem Power rather than as a delegation. This never expires, and you can build your account on this foundation.
With a free account you get a delegation, which has a finite life span, and although it gives you earlier access to more SP you will need to plan for it's expiration.
So, to directly answer your question, no: a purchased account through BlockTrades does not come with a delegation.
what if somebody wants to buy an account with a lot of sp. can he send steem more than the price of the account? (3 steem)
We can buy more STEEM POWER after account creation or pay more than the recommended amount. I bought an account and received the rest in STEEM wallet which can be used to Power Up or pay bidbots etc. 😊
@pinay Thanks for good information. I want to learn more about steempower and its use
If we have more Steem Power, our vote/curation have more value too. :)
Have you noticed when you and other newbies upvote your posts/comments you earn 0.00? That is because upvoters have no enough Steem/Voting Power. :)
please let me know if I buy more steem and keep then is there benefit for me? I am new so I am asking
Yes, we can curate/vote/post as much as we want no bandwidth problems if we have more Steem Power ;)
Don't forget that we are ALLOWED to vote our own posts. Instead of getting 0.00 upvote value for our posts we can reward "ourselves"more. ;)
yes why not .follow me.. upvote my post please
@pinay is exactly correct - any money sent beyond the cost of the account creation will be transferred to your new account as Steem.
Very interesting! Quite a development which is a good sign of growing interests!
Hope for the best!
Resteemed too!
I have about 60-65 BTS but I cannot see any them, trade them, or withdraw them. After I click "initiate trade" I get an address and a memo, but no button or icon to proceed further with the trade. How do I trade my BTS back into STEEM, SBD, or SP?
The next step is you must go to your bitshares wallet to send the BTS or send them from an exchange if you bought them on an exchange.
Thanks for the help, but I thought BlockTrades was my Bitshares wallet. I used BlockTrades and "bought" them with STEEM. I am able to see my balance (68 BTS) on cryptofresh.com.
We don't hold funds for customers currently: we only send coins to your wallets. For bitshares, your wallet would be the web page where you created your bitshares account.
Thanks, but I don't understand. I held STEEM (or SBD) and exchanged ("traded, bought") BTS on BlockTrades. I've tried moving BTS to Binance, but address/memo is not compatible with the options available.
Hi, I checked through transactions from "qiyi", but I don't see any purchases of bts from that account. If you bought from a different account, let me know, and I can track down where we sent the bts.

The current account creation process takes too much time or is too complex to encourage new users to sign up. Neither option really induces folks to join. Once on, the Steemit rules are also extremely complex--far from the simple post, upvote, earn Steem that is marketed. When I signed up I thought it might be nice to just pay a little to get an account right away, but there was no indication on the Steemit sign up page about cost, which I thought was really odd. A button to pay a small fee via paypal or credit card would go a long way to encourage new users. Immediate free accounts with delegated steem would be better. I think it just depends on how much those who control these things want to see the platform succeed.

I didnt know about this
Whats the benefit to buying? Most people buy to havr multiple accounts. Is there any benefit to multiple accounts?
We can have multiple accounts for specific niche if we want organized feed ;)
The only answer I can give to this is, "it depends."
Our service, BlockTrades, uses multiple accounts to separate our main @blocktrades which handles announcements and running our service from accounts such as this which have more limited access to funds for when we have to manually create a transfer to refund a customer.
Another user might, for instance, choose to have two accounts for hosting two distinct blogs.
So while I don't think there is an inherent benefit to having multiple accounts, there are definitely situations where a person would want to for organizational purposes.
Is the support email the same one? 184 steem -> eth transfer failed... I've just sent a help request.
Something happened with our ability to broadcast ETH transactions late yesterday. Several of our developers stayed late to get a bandaid solution in place, but it appears to have sprung a leak again overnight. This is a top-priority issue for everyone in the office this morning.
We are extremely sorry for this inconvenience, but I want you to know that we have not lost any transactions. We will be scouring the various blockchains to make sure of this, and so far in my own efforts in this direction it appears that our system has appropriately recognized and flagged each of the failed outputs. Worst-case scenario there will just be a little longer of a delay before you receive your trade.
Again, we are very sorry for this trouble, and we appreciate your patience in this matter while we get things taken care of.
Kind of desperate here... Edit: sorry if I sounded rude.
No worries - we understand that your Steem is hard-earned, and we take handling all of our customers' cryptocurrencies very seriously.
But we have good news! Our ETH service is back online, and everything looks to be running smoothly again :)
I'll take an extra moment to verify that your transaction has confirmed. Thank you again for your patience!
I want to buy steemit account but i don't have any crypto currency . i understand what i can do??
You will need to visit another exchange that allows purchase of cryptocurrency with fiat currency.
Depending on where you live in the world there may be services based out of your region, but a search engine will probably be your best first step.
Thanks for ur valuable reply ,i am from india .
I will try to buy through fiat exchange.

why cant i exchange steam for ethereum
@blocktrades, Hi your Steem and Steem Dollars Wallets are "under maintenance" for the past 20 hours? Please post a maintenance message if it was scheduled, thanks!
You may have caught us at inopportune times - we have had three short outages over the last 48hr that were related to some hardware and software updates that we were doing. It seems the new setup wasn't as reliable as we hoped, so we took the wallet down for a short period this morning as well to revert the changes.
Everything should be good to go from here, however!
thank you for the reply, all is well now :)
@blocktrades-help I have accunt already but I won't to purchase steem power how cud I by it in my account plz tell me ?
If you want to purchase Steem Power you will want to select that as your "Receive" coin from our main page and input your Steem address as the "Receive Address"
Why Should you buy account? Can't you wait for a week for free account?
The answer to this is up to each individual, but purchasing an account does come with some distinct advantages that we discussed in a previous reply!
nicr post
Thank you very much for this detailed guide. It really helps to have some images that visually explain the text. I wasn't even aware that a steemit account costs three steemit, I guess you always learn something new.
I've used this and gotta say, I love it. Plus its a good way to get a account to a friend without knowing their keys and getting them the account instantly. Just ask them for the transfer memo, send the funds and boom, your friend now has an account without waiting and without needing to pay the fees.
There is nothing against having multiple accounts, nor do I believe is it frowned upon in the community. I know of many people who do for a wide range of purposes.
I opened a steem free account. And now wants to buy steem power, what's the implication.
First i am confuse how it works but when i do it really shoking its to easy
@blocktraders-help Thank you so much for encouraging and supporting . I am new but your encouragement is helping me to join with good community. Thanks
i sent steem from bittrex exchange but still not receiving on my wallet. please help me
Thank you for that explanation. Sounds easy. I have a Steemit account but i want to create another to post contente of a comedy/music project i have with a friend. I will surely use your method.
Thanks for the tutorial, although I personally don't see the need for a second account. Maybe great for people/friends who want to join Steem, but want to bypass the waiting time of a few days for the verification process.
Hey everyone,
While I don't mind helping troubleshoot individual issues in the comments, I can promise you a -much faster- response time if you reach out to support@blocktrades.us :)
Can you give me back my money which you stole from my account? I never sent nothing to you!
