Very cool, I need to dive into bitshares and openledger already.
Would this be a cost-effective option for daytrading steem/usd movements without actually touching fiat ?

Yes, I think that's definitely one useful way to use it. The key for that to work will be to get liquidity into OPEN.USD markets, but Steem could definitely help that.
Cheers , I've been meaning to try out bitshares properly for ages but I've been too obsessed with steem itself for months now - this is a good motivation.. Thanks for the flag support in the other thread too :)
