RE: BlockTrades is running a temporary "HF20" sale on Steem delegations (50% off)

I tried the same thing but wasn't so sure about the SP per Steem value. Mine was auto-populated with 150.

This is screensnip from Blocktrades.

Eth current price: $215.36
Steem Power: 4211.812
Steem Price: $1.01

Approximate cost in USD for comparable MB delegation: $364.69

According to the 150 SP / Steem, the MB delegation is 160% more expensive from the look of it.

I'm personally on the fence as to whether I would rather pay for a delegation or rather just buy Steem Power. Using the SteemNow Upvote Calculator (assuming that it is accurate), such Steem Power would give you a $0.23 upvote.

Let's do some math. If one gets 10 100% votes per day, the total STU value is $2.30 per day. For the full 90, it is $207.

Compared to anything else out there, that is pretty good but is it worth it? I suppose that depends on your goals. If a person is hoping to use such a delegation to self-vote for author rewards (Of course after 15 minutes with the new HF rules), take 60% of that $207 and you'll make about $124 assuming you don't catch any downvotes. Not a fan of self-voting so not a course I would take.

There are other perks of getting delegation besides using it to self-vote or meet minimum resource requirements to transact. I think a delegation is a good way to build a following for instance.

It is indeed a lot to consider. I think I would probably jump on it if it was a 75% discount but, with my present calculations, I think I would prefer powering up and supporting my network on the longer term. That's just me.

You can easily get 225 SP/ Steem at the moment, conservatively 215 or 200. @minnowbooster is still cheaper at that rate by a good margin.

Yeah, you need to mostly self-vote to profit at all. But if, like me, you buy delegations to purposely give STEEM away, it's convenient.

From an economic standpoint, the most conservative and permanent is to just buy STEEM and power up, but it's not glamorous, of course.

Yes, it is excellent for that.

Couldn't agree more. Def better for the LT.

But you earn curation reward from delegations, no?

Yeah, but curation is very little, even with 100k borrowed SP (yes, I tried it :-P)

If you self-voted 80-90% of the time you could probably turn a profit.

Steem price is pretty low right now and I don't think it can go any more lower. If steem rises then upvote value will increase too. Then these delegations might be worth.

A little boost to curation rewards, a little more glamour, and always the off chance Steem will rise too. I've taken a small bite :)

Let's hope you are right. I think either way it's better to just buy and power up than pay for a temporary delegation but depends on your goals.

Also, takes a lot less time and effort but that is not to say a delegation cannot be used for other purposes such as promotion.
