When we talk about the Internet, we all know how simple it is to use it. We use Google for search, Facebook for chatting, Amazon for shopping and YouTube for watching videos.
Most people find it almost impossible to imagine these companies may disappear one day. I have to admit, I also thought the same. But then I learned about the blockchain. No doubt the blockchain technology is the revolution that is changing the world. In fact, it is probably is the most important invention in computing in a generation.
This is exactly why I am so excited about Steemit. It’s a revolution of social media and it’s on a whole another level. Moreover, there are other projects now, like Nebulas, which is the company that is building a decentralised search framework. We already have DTube and I am sure that it’s not difficult to imagine a decentralised Amazon.
So why aren't Facebook, Amazon and Google doing more with blockchain technology? The answer is that the blockchain party has only just begun and tech-giants are not paying that much of attention. Telegram are far more flexible and this is the reason why they will be announcing the ICO.
There is still a huge potential in blockchain. Most bloggers and YouTubers don’t even know about Steemit. By the time most people get to learn about blockchain, there will be many companies that will be able to compete with the biggest tech-titans and may potentially make them irrelevant.
To summarise my opinion, I have added the work by Andrei Lucatusu who imagines the decaying ruins of social media.
And what do you guys think?
I think it's foolhardy of these companies to think that they are too big to fail. They aren't the banks. The world's money does not depend on them. They won't get bailed out by the federal government. If and when they come crashing down it will be because they were too full of themselves. Blockchain will be the achilles heel for current social media giants. YouTube and Facebook have already started their descent.
I totally agree and personally believe that this is exactly what is happening already. Surely Myspace was not the last social network to die
"I am sure that it’s not difficult to imagine a decentralised Amazon." There already is one. It's called OpenBazaar.
