Are you using the falling crypto markets as an opportunity to stock up on coins?

in #blockchain6 years ago

There has been a lot of blood on the crypto markets in the last days, and I see increasingly many people getting afraid for the future of Bitcoin, altcoins, and blockchain technology in general. I for one think that blockchain technology is here to stay, and so are a lot of cryptocurrencies. We might see a lot of bad coins die during this bloodshed, but that might not be such a bad thing after all. I don't think Steem is one of those who will die, due to it being one of the few blockchains that are actually actively used by many different people.

Are you accumulating coins?

Back when Steem was between $4 and $6, one thing I saw a lot of new users say is that they missed the train. They felt like it was impossible for them to grow their account organically, and even with lots of effort they could not get a decent amount of Steem Power. I heard the phrase "you were lucky to be here blogging when Steem was at >$0.10".

Guess what? None of us who actually invested time on the Steem blockchain when Steem was next to worthless were lucky. We either did it because we had high hopes for the coin, or because we enjoyed the small community that was still active. While I can't argue with the fact that we were lucky to learn about Steem at an early stage, this recent crypto free fall has provided us with yet an opportunity to accumulate Steem at a good pace.

While we still have a long fall before we reach below 10 cents per coin, the current market price of $0.4 per Steem allow us to potentially get 10x as many Steem for our dollars if we invest compared to a year ago. It's a great entry point for new buyers, and most people from industrialized parts of the world can probably afford to get at least 1,000 Steem Power if they really want to get involved. $400 is not a very big investment at all, but 1,000SP is enough to give a little influence on the website.

Invest your time

Don't have money to invest? No problem! The great thing about Steem is that we can earn it by investing our time, and there are many ways to earn Steem here. While most users won't be able to get daily upvotes worth tens or hundreds of dollars on blog posts, the low price of Steem allow anyone to get a decent amount of Steem and Steem Power per week if they put in the effort.

If blogging's not your thing, then commenting can also be a method to get some Steem. Many groups, DApps, and users upvote great comments about and on their posts. For example, Steemhunt give upvotes to great comments, Musing.io give big upvotes to great answers, and many individual users like myself upvote any comment in the comment section that adds value to the post.

I believe that anyone who actually puts in a lot of time and effort can earn a good amount of Steem. The current dollar value might not give you a great hourly payout, but the amount of Steem will be. And what would happen if we get Steem back to $5 again? The $2 upvote you got is now worth $20, and the time invested might not have had such a low return after all.

So if you were one of those people who complained about not being able to get in on a reasonable level back when Steem was $5, now's your chance; either with time and effort, or with cash.

Can we all be dolphins?

I think this low price is a good opportunity to create more dolphins, or in other words, a middle class, here on Steem. While it will still require a huge effort to get 5,000 Steem Power, it seems more possible than ever when these low prices.

So my best tip is to keep blogging, keep commenting, keep interacting, keep upvoting good authors, keep paying attention to the DApps, power up, and don't worry too much about the price!

While I tend to share your buy low and sell high in principle, think about this:
Would you pay 390$ to gain 1000 more Steem?
This is how overvalued Steem still is, and Steem is one of less than a handful digital currencies with real life usage.
I think that if Bitcoin will go to zero, Steem will find a floor above zero despite it.
Still, as long as Bitcoin is above 1000$, I expect Steem to follow Bitcoin in its downward trajectory, even Bitcoin will lose 50% from its current value, and Steem will drop more.
Somewhere below 1000$ Bitcoin, Steem will start to outperform it, or at least supposed to.
But it will decline along Bitcoin, even if at a slower pace.
The longer the time, the weaker Steem becomes compared to Bitcoin due to its inflation.
So if Steem is so overvalued according to the would you pay 390$ for 1000 Steem, Bitcoin is too.
Why is 390$ still expensive?
Because 1000 more Steem will do almost no difference for almost all users in terms of how much they can be bullied by others here, and in terms of how much it will allow them to change the witnesses chart.
Multiply it by 10 and it does start to give you some deterrence against bullying, but still no effect on the witnesses chart.
However multiplying it by 10 is 3900$.
This amount of money can buy some cars or leave a lot of change from a monster PC, or yield income from stocks.
But it is the rich whom call the shots, and their considerations are less familiar to me.
Does a rich person have the need or the time for Steem activity?
Only if he is a bored rich person, and even if bored, there are better things to do with 3900$.
There will be those whom will pay, but is it enough to offset the selling pressure at 0.39$ per Steem?
It still seems expensive to me.
BTW, do you know if the witnesses get less when Steem goes down, or do they get more Steem?

hmm best time to buy some steem yup em gonna buy some tomorrow or maybe day after tomorrow coz tomorrow we have holiday so em just hoping untill i buy some steem price should be less or same :p yea em being kind of selfish :p

That's nice! I hope you are able to get them for a good price ;)

I’m being verry cautious buying Steem or any other crypto right now. You can’t know which coin will survive or not. It’s really a gamble at this stage of the game.

That's a valid concern. It's definitely possible that a lot of cryptos will die from this correction. But as said above, I think Steem will be one of those who survives. But I obviously don't know for sure, so it's smart to be concerned about this.

I realized that the price of the Steem Monsters cards was not affected by the Global Crypto Sell-Off, and because I believe on the future of the STEEM, I decided to start selling some of my good cards, and convert all into STEEM, which later on I plan to sell and buy back the Steem Monsters cards. So far, this helped me to power-up 17 SP, which is my normal earnings for more than two weeks!

That's a great story! I love it when people are able to increase their Steem Power by playing or investing in Steem Monsters. It's definitely a possibility to earn some money by buying cards at the right time.

Well, this is what we keep hearing over and over and while I agree with it and definitely see the point here, I must admit it is has been getting a bit frustrating with still no light at the end of the tunnel in sight... It sometimes feels like the Steem price is nearing the zero :(

I feel your pain. Staying positive and optimistic can be really difficult in times like these. I have lost motivation to blog here in the past, but luckily I'm able to think long-term and motivate myself for the most part. But it can definitely feel like a struggle at times.

I know my friend and I remember the time when you were "down". I totally agree we need to focus on the long-term perspective but I guess it is even more difficult for those of us who decided to kind of place all eggs into one basket and made Steemit their only source of income. We simply need to cash out regularly to cover our life expenses. And nobody wants to sell Steem at 40 cents...

That's true. I didn't realize that Steem is your only source of income, and that definitely makes the low prices a lot more urgent and problematic. I hope we won't have to wait too long before we get a bull run tough.

I want to buy more coins, but I'm running out of Fiat😂

Hehe, me too!

By the way, have you tried Partiko? It's a really well built Steem app that allows you to receive push notifications instantly on the phone! It's really going to help you engage with your audience!

Posted using Partiko Android

Nope, I haven't gotten around to test it yet. I don't really use my smart phone too often tough, so it has not been a priority for me. But I will test it out eventually :)

Ah got it! That makes complete sense! Let me know whenever you need help!

Thanks, I will do that ;)

Maan I soo much want to buy :D But I still think we're heading even lower...bough quite some STEEM couple of days ago tho, just to make sure I get at least something if we spike...didn't happen :D

But yeah, I'm much more active here on Steemit now then earlier with higher price..it's easier to stock up on STEEMs now :)

Good strategy! It would probably feel terrible if you miss the low, and are unable to get in a buy order before the bulls take charge.

But yeah, I'm much more active here on Steemit now then earlier with higher price..it's easier to stock up on STEEMs now :)

That's good! It's funny how a post that reads $10 now (which is not a whole lot) would have been displaying over $100 at the all time high. I think people are much more likely to vote on a "small" payout post than they would if the post had $50+ displayed, so it's probably easier to get Steem. And there are of course less people here who share the reward pool as well.

Even though I really don't have much money to spare, I bought about 170 STEEM in the last couple of days that I used for powering up.

I just could not miss the opportunity. It's a steal right now. Would have definitely bought more if I had the chance.

Nice! I would have wanted to buy some myself, but it's a bit difficult now that Christmas is coming up, and I'm not exactly swimming in cash at the moment. Maybe it will stay low until after new year when I will be able to buy some myself tough. But we'll see. And congrats on getting some cheap Steem!

Steem at $0.40 is a great deal! I am going to accumulate as much as possible below $0.50 for now.

Yep, it really is. Good luck with the accumulation! I am sure you will earn a nice profit if you are patient enough ;)

Thanks for a very informative post!! Very helpful indeed!

But I could not buy Steem with my SBD on Blocktrades today!?

Cheers.

You're welcome.

And you don't need to use Blocktrades or any exchange to trade SBD to Steem; just use the internal market: https://steemit.com/market.

Thank you! I think that Market hang fur a while , might be due to traffic!

Hello valth, probably you will make a post to this new theme shortly, but because I was in panic since I've seen this new problem on Steemit I couldn't wait and decided to chose your newest posting to ask you an important thing.

Yesterday my newest post showed a prophit from $0. 30 and 670 SP, but today my post just showed a prophit from 0 SP, all other posts from different user also show a profit from 0 SP, 0 Steem, 0 SBD and so on, that is why I'm not sure if that's just temporary or if we all did lose these gainings. :/

I hope that's just an overreaction from my side, but because you're an important source here for questions like this one I had to ask you what's going on here on Steemit at the moment.

To BTC or not to BTC?
