I was so excited when I opened the box. Little did I know, in just a few seconds, I was about to be majorly disappointed.
"Don't take this out the box! You can't play with this!" my parents said to me.
Those are NOT the words an 8-year-old wants to hear when she just got a special edition Barbie for Christmas!
I know my parents were just worried that it would lose it's potential future value if I played with it. They wanted me to have something special that I could keep for a long time.
I know this because the word "special" was right there on the box:
You can probably guess how this story ended. As soon as my parents went to sleep, I hurriedly ripped open the box as if the world was about to end and I had to reach the contents inside before it did.
Luckily for my parents, my rebellious act didn't backfire too much. I couldn't help myself. Girls just wanna have fun.
I know this because I just looked up the value of that barbie today...
...and it's only selling between $15-$25.
Phew.
I'm relieved to know that my childish whims and disobedience didn't cost them a potential fortune in any way.
As a kid, I was big on collecting two things: rocks and Pokemon cards.
I still have a bunch of Pokemon cards from the 90s sitting in a binder like this:
I read a statistic somewhere that said about 1/3 of people in the UK are collectors, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say 1/3 of people in the world are collectors. 90% of statistics are made up on the spot, anyway.
So I'm betting you or someone you know collects something...
...and no, bellybutton lint doesn't count (although I did find a picture of a guy online who actually collects his bellybutton lint in jars!) Eeeew. I can't bring myself to post the picture.
Honestly, collecting stuff can just make you feel dang good. Plus the hunt to find something rare gives you kind of a rush, doesn't it? And it can be a wise investment.
Some people's collections end up being worth a lot of $$$!
Like this ONE comic book from 1938 that sold for almost $1 million dollars:
Now, the new trend is going towards collecting digital items. And an even more world-changing trend is collecting digital items based on blockchain technology.
Think steemmonsters, for example.
Some people have already sold cards for a good amount of $, or exchanged their gold dragon card for real gold!!
This is why I’m super intrigued by a new project I came across called GAMEDEX.co as they’re in this collecting space (but are combining it with super popular games and they do it using the blockchain).
(click on the pic and it'll take you to their site)
It's super interesting.
They have blockchain-powered digital collectible cards and games like Pokemon, Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, and FIFA.
When I first saw it I thought "Dang, that's pretty legit!"
Not to mention the global gaming market is only getting bigger each year. Last year, it was worth $110 billion dollars in 2017 and is projected to continue growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 6% or more.
Digital collectibles on the blockchain? It's the future.
People love collecting things.
They always have.
And I don’t see that stopping any time soon.
But what is changing is the fact that we're entering an even more digital world than ever before (where our entire identities and lives are merged with digital devices and services and platforms).
There are going to be more and more valuable online collectibles
I mean, didn’t some person spend $140K on a rare CryptoKitty a few months ago?
Craziness.
But, that’s the thing, blockchain is great for video games (and people that hang out in this space). It's great for digital pets, sports cards, fantasy creatures...
...and they all come alive with GAMEDEX.
Now, what makes GAMEDEX unique?
Well, it’s unique because Gamedex acts as your digital wallet, exchange, and game store - all in one. So, if you’re into collectibles, sports betting, and digital card games in general (or believe that this market is going to be huge over the next few years like I do)…
…then you may want to look into their Token Sale and sign up.
They even have people on their team from companies like Topps, Microsoft (XBOX), EA Games, Sony, PlayStation, Twitch, Facebook, and more.
This platform, being connected to the blockchain, also makes collectibles real by making counterfeits impossible, transfers instant, and limited editions just that - limited and rare.
And one of the COOLEST things about them is if you have a game idea but ZERO technical skills (which is basically me all day long), they have a "copy n' paste" code type model where you can easily make your game ideas come to life.
Anywhoo…
Check 'em out and read their white paper if you’re interest is piqued. Their token is still in pre-sale.
Speaking of gaming and collecting things... I've been collecting some SBD's, and I realized that I haven't done a contest or giveaway in a while, so I want to change that! So, let's make a sort of game out of this!
😁 😃
I'll be giving away 20 SBD's!
Now, to win, all you have to do is 1 of 2 things:
- You can resteem this post OR you can...
- Comment telling me something you collect
1st- 6 SBDs --- Will be given away to someone who tags at least 3 game lovers/collectors in the comments
2nd- 5 SBDs --- Will be given to somebody who tags at least 2 game lovers/collectors in the comments
3rd- 4 SBDs --- Will be given to a random person who tags at least 1 game lovers/collectors in the comments
4th- 3 SBD --- Will be given away to a random person who re-steems this post
5th- 2 SBD --- Will be given to somebody who re-steems this post
If you want just for fun, tell me something you like to collect in the comments! Maybe you'll find someone who collects the same thing as you!
Contest ends at post payout!
And don't forget to check out Gamedex.co where you can play your fave games and collect your fave cards on the blockchain, mmkay? 'Cause that's what inspired all this madness in the first place.
Greetings, linda Miss Nomadic
Very nice your story with the Collections. For me, it's a form of hobby that can develop and, apart from being a form of entertainment and relaxation, can we transmit knowledge about our collection, case study her.
Let me tell you of my collections. When I was a kid, by mistake, the mail service delivered in my house a album called "Pantanal". This album involved location to place stickers over 100 animals in the "Pantanal". It's a brazilian forest. Animals such as Jaguars, monkeys, alligators ... appeared there. Pretty cool. These figures to complete some came within a gum that bought well cheap. It was super cool.
After that, I really liked the picture and bought the album 1 year later called "" deep sea "in that, had 100 places to put marine animals. Remember some of the cards as if they were today. I could learn a lot about sea creatures with this album.
Another collection very, very and very famous were the cards of the "brasilian Championship soccer". Had this album for a 4 or 5 years. My father gave me. It was super cool.
I appreciate the post and the memories brought.
Good afternoon!!!
I tag @gvand with monster collection cards ; @julisavio with albuns of varietys colection ; @sol25 with a lots of beautiful nature's pictures that she have!!!
Wow, essa é uma história tão legal !!!! Imagine, você começou uma coleção inteira só por causa de algo que deu errado no correio! Adoro!! Esses álbuns de adesivos soam divertidos ... Eu adoraria algo assim também!
in portuguese hahaha. thank you honey
I collect foreign money and have bills from all 6 inhabited continents . It all started one day when a good friend of mine from Romania showed me some of their money and I thought it looked awesome because it had see through symbols on them. So he gave me 2 bills and I hung them one my wall. I was working at Ghirardelli and every summer we would get people from dozens of different countries that would work for 3 months and then go home. So when I would invite these people over they seen my money hanging and damn near every one pulled some foreign bills out of there pocket to add to my collection. Next thing I knew I add over hundred foreign bills. That's when I decided to make some art with it(photo below) I even have some money that is no longer printed ; ) from India and other places. I plan on making more art as I have more bills :)
The photo below is my interpretation of world peace. ~TT
Okay now THAT'S a super cool story!!!!!!! I used to collect foreign money, too! But there's no cool story like that sooo maybe I need to start over haha. I also love $$ with see-through symbols. My first see-through symbol money was from Nicaragua. Malaysia has a pretty one too! Well, you probably know this lol.
I love love love that you made art with it! And a peace sign! That's so cool!
Thanks. It is my favorite piece of art that I have done
I think that's a great piece. Telling every viewer the real reason for world unrest.
Haha I'm glad you understand it! I am going to make a yin yang out of my other foreign cash! And then an anarchy symbol from all american 2 dollar bills!
Fantastic your post. I have friends who are gambling addicts and regular collectors who could start earning $ here and GAMEDEX because they have a lot of knowledge about games to share and even create new projects. I like collecting Classic comics.
ptgram power | faça parte | grupo steemit brasil
oh that's awesome! You should tag them then and enter :) hehe thanks for stopping by @pedrocanella!
I try to convince them almost every day haha. Look, I took a picture of my oldest comic:
wow that's so cool!
Great article! I have started to keep an eye on Gamedex too. The market for digital collectibles is HUGE and still growing.
Personally, I used to collect Carebear cards (don't laugh) when I was a child and then Garbage Pail Kids until my school banned them for being gross. Yesterday I came across an article via Hackernoon about a trading card on auction, and after reading it I literally got so excited that I sold some NEO to buy some cards! So I guess I am now a collector of Gods Unchained LOL!
I've also started following Steem Monsters (when I have time!), thanks to posts by @frankjoseph and @maverickinvictus who have both been entering some great content for the competitions. It's really cool to see all the different entries for this, so much talent on here.
Thanks again for your post. As you can tell, I too, am very enthusiastic about Gamedex and collectibles on the blockchain as a real use case :)
@crypt0rhodes
Hahahahaha I have to look up Garbage Pail Kids because I don't know what they are, but I laughed out loud when you said "my school banned them for being gross."
Wow that made my day haha. omg that's awesome you got those cards! You're right though...isn't it INSANE how huge the digital collectibles market is?!?!
i know a little about gaming actually. But i did meet with some person on steemit who love to play games or collect monsters card.
Resteemed post
That's awesome!!! Thank you @aaarif!!! Nice to see you around here again :)
Hi @nomadicsoul, last some days i was busy in my office work. And going over some family issues. I saw post, read and after that my hand vibrate to type something on keyboard and my mind got blank and i said myself what i'll write now?!!! then i stopped and comment nothing :D
Hi there @nomadicsoul, what a wonderful and nicely written post on the topic of collecting! I also think for gaming specifically, blockchain has so many fantastic uses.
Personally, I struggle with digital collectibles - I've long had a big digital music collection and my digital photos however, unique enough for me.
These days, as I've gone through life, I aim to try and collect EXPERIENCES over THINGS :) Although, I also have a collection of vinyl records, and intend to continue growing it ...
For the prizes, can only get as far as 2nd place ... by mentioning @murda-ra as a massive game lover and @john-robert being a collector or 'stacker' of silver and gold coins ...
I collect experiences too, which turns into collecting way too many photos on my phone and running out of storage space! hahaha. Thanks for reading! And tagging :)
I gotta tell. This is a super smart way of doing all these!!! hahaha really! It's like all in one (I'm borrowing a method sometimes, this is my 'asking for permission' kinda comment :D)
And yes, I'm sure joining in the contest :D
haha go for it!!! and thanks!!!!!
I was a huge comic book collector in high school, I used to have a cabinet full of them mostly from Marvel comics. Unfortunately they got lost when we moved. Then I discovered Magic the Gathering and became a rabid collector, lol! 😄 When the new cards got too pricey for my meager student's budget I decided to sell what I have since I can no longer stay competitive and updated.
Now that we have crypto, I'm collecting coins and tokens left right and center! 😁
Tagging collectors @blewiit , @shaungerow, @saywha
Whoa , awesome! Sounds like gamedex is perfect for you!!! I'm glad because of crypto you'll be able to get new cards again! Man whenever I find gaming fans I'm sad that my brother isn't on steemit... He's a huge gamer and hilarious and I think he'd have fun here
I collect Vang!! @nomadicsoul collects awesome blog post history! @goldfashioned also collects Vang !
hahaha I'm gonna join the vang gang soon!
Vang Gang <—— name of my next band
haha I was REALLY HOPING you would say that!
Well @goldmatters already tagged me, but I also collect Pokemon cards! I thought this surfing Mene pikachu was pretty cool
OMG I can come out now,I have these from like 20 years ago!
That' so cool!!!! I KNEW I'd find another poke person!
Great combo! Plz dear
Hi! @nomadicsoul
What an excellent contest!... Well I collect guitars because it's my favorite instrument. :D
Oooo cool please teach me to play!
I learned from my father, he is teacher :D
Ha! Ha! Collection is always a really fun topic. And I used to have three. My biggest one was my matchoxes, thats the real stuff, not the little model cars. I had over a 1000 of them, collected from my travels around the world and different flea markets. Broke my heart when I had to give them away.
The second one is my rubbber ducks. Yup, the adorable yellow duckies you bathe with. I had over 300 of them, but now have only got about 100 left. Here's part of them.
And my last one... actually on second thoughts, that remains a secret as I get so much stick over it. People think I'm nuts when I tell them. Let's just say you can pick them up in a lot of restaurants, and no its not packs of sugar. Yes!!! There are people who collect them if you didn't know.
I'm going to tag @travelgirl who collects Hello Kitty stuff, and @kona who's a gamer.
Wow...thank you for tag me, let me join😎😎
thanks for joining @kona glad you did
lol omg your rubber ducks!!! :) :) Yeah this is really fun to see what people collect!! I feel like you get to know so much about a person! I love your ducks! I have a little tiny duck from Thailand with me hehe.
Omg you're KILLING ME with the secret collections!!! It just makes you all the more exciting haha @livinguktaiwan
Congrats, you made the #steemitminute for today!
Click the Image Below to see the Video!

Yeah and your idea of giveaway is super awesome:)
PS :
I would also tag @karensuestudios and @alphasteem... Both the ladies are awesome collectors...
I collect steemmonsters now.
I got 2 legendaries and 4 Gold Foil cards.
Nice, oh man, how many packs did you have to buy to get the rare ones? Just curious.
like 10
Star Trek Christmas tree ornaments! Mabie I will meet someone else that does this!🚀
That's awesome!!! I love Christmas trees that aren't basic
Since @suitcasebaby joined us a few years ago, we've been collecting kid's books for contries where we go as a family or where I go for work.
We also have a couple of Thai language posters of classic American movies, but we'll show you these in person when you stay with us :)
Here are some game lovers:
Also: any update on that company? You coming to Bangkok or what!?!? You should stay here while you do your in person interview, we also collect signatures in our guest book ;)
I LOVE these books!!! so cute!!! That's a great idea! I have a kids book from Mexico somewhere...and Costa Rica. Wish I had it with me so I could give to you
Update: There isn't an update yet! But hey! You should tell me about the other thing! Maybe on discord?
Once you release your children's book we can add it to the list 😎
Discord ID: eoj9789
I think. I'm pretty bad at the Discords 😁
Love this post, I'm old school... I collect old posters and dvd's. I need to stop collecting these things haha
I never thought I'd see the day when we'd be referring to DVDs as old school! Funny that :)
P.S. You have some brilliant films in your collection btw! Fight Club is one of my favs - great cast, great script.
I know huh haha... I’m gettin old ☺️😅
Whoa, I didn't know about the DVDs! I'm a little surprised by that one. I actually thought you'd say posters and books! No pokemon from back in the day?!
Also, check your discord!
Omg, I keep forgetting... I’ll check it tomm lol
haha no you won't! It's ok, I won't be upset
I started collecting those little dipping sauces from fast food places but I always wind up eating them in the middle of the night.
Hahaha I used to keep the ones from Taco Bell in my purse because the quotes on them made me laugh!
Done resteeming.
Now for the tag, i know @erwinboyones, @hiyo and @earncrypto must be collecting something too.
I for one loves to collect moments or memories. They are all placed in an album, one on top of the other. And when i get bored, i just pick one, browse it, and i am left reminiscing usually laughing all alone.
Haha aw I love that. Same! Memories/experiences! I love when I find old funny videos or something that I have with my friends and it makes me laugh. Thanks for reading/tagging!
You are most welcome.
I used to collect lots of pokemon cards in the 90s-00s. Now I mainly collect silver/foreign coins and artwork. Since I'm an artist my self I tend to collect other artists things for inspirations also.
All of these guys dig games!
@Jlynn0090
@thelastjedi
@pauls-the-second
One of my paintings
Oooh I had to give up my foreign coins but I want to start collecting silver and gold! And digital assets. And paintings too could be a great idea once I finally get a legit home again haha. I'll keep that in mind that I should buy paintings from steemians later.
You are AMAZING!!! Hella talented!! Wow I love the colors and how bold it is. Thanks for reading/commenting/participating!
Hi @nomadicsoul! Your post made me return to my childhood! 😃
I collected postage stamps and elephant figures.
Lol! I had so many of them! There were almost 200 of elephants!
🐘🐘🐘🐘🤪
But most of all, I loved troll figures with colourful hair! 🧝♀
I always enjoyed the combination of "ugliness" with something unusual and colorful! 👹🌈💙
My troles looked pretty similar to the ones from the photo! I think you may like it too! 😄
Now I don't have a single item from these collections. Because I don't have a place where I can keep them. Everything I have is in one backpack and small bag. (I love minimalism!)
But You know what? 😏
Thanks to this I became a professional collector of... memories! 🤩💭
Steemit is now my big shelf, where I set my exciting adventures.
Oh it was wonderful to refresh the memory of my collections! Thank you and wish you a colourful troll day! 😅💙🧝♀
oh man I loved playing with trolls! I didn't have that many, but the girl next door did and I loved going to her house to play. I totally remember the jewel bellybuttons! Haha thanks for reminding me of that!
I think the same thing about steemit! I don't have a place to store much either. Digital collectibles are pretty cool for that reason, too. It's also why I have so many pictures on my phone lol
It's great to meet another troll enthusiast! 😃 I was very fascinated by their hair! This was the cause of even a small fire. LOL
I also have a lot of photos on my phone! Even now, when I have almost full memory, I can't delete any of them.
LOL a small fire?!? oh wow, this sounds like a good story. Same with the not deleting photos thing... it's so bad
Funny contest! Well, I remember I collected calendars when I was a kid. Now, I collect memories... especially the ones when travelling! I live by the saying" visit at least one new place every year"... and fortunately been knowing a lot more that that!
Ooh that's a good one! I'm trying to collect memories too, since I move a lot and don't have places to put things. I guess digital collections are a good idea for that reason, also!
I forget a lot of things, so it's nice to write down memories and "collect" them through steemit
This is my collection of "one piece"figure, i have more than 10 t-shirt of "one piece". And 60more ps3 games, now I sold them all because I start to collect ps4 games😅😅
I tag @aaronli and @prch to join this funny game!
I was a shopaholic without self control but shop no more now, addition gone -)
I have a mini tiny collection of shoes, about 2 dozens.
I’m tagging @sallyfun and @aitommylr to this game, they may have collected something interesting.
Hey good for you for kicking the addiction!!! Thanks for participating!
oh wow! A lot of cool stuff there. Thanks for participating!
I really like games and collections. I loved your post. I collect plush toys and have many others, but I loaned them for my little cousin to play, another time I'll put them all together for a special photo. Kisses.
Aw thanks for taking a picture and sharing with us! I used to collect beanie babies!
I like to collect the albums of each football world cup, both in physical and in world version. Obviously Panini brand, although this year, I could not complete it, little by little I'm doing, buying cards online.
I also like to collect Playstation 2 games, despite the new consoles and all the advances, I grew up with this console, it will always be my favorite!
I do not know if it counts collecting tokens haha of any airdrop or ico that ends haha
And finally, although I do not know if I am into this subject, I love collecting rocks and minerals, it fascinates me, I have pyrite, shales, quartz, granites, granodiorites, iron, geodes, tourmalines, albites, among others.
Nomino to @fjmb86, it should be curious to know what collections
And like not to mention @louzam I know that you like to collect a photo of flowers, or Mario Bros. games.
My Quartz Amethyst
Oh I love the rock picture! I used to collect those too. Such a pretty purple! And yes digital coins count!
I have been following your blog and writing very well. I hope we can be friends! OK? I also hope that you can pay attention to me and cast a valuable vote for me! thanks again! @zero12345
To the question in your title, my Magic 8-Ball says:
Hi! I'm a bot, and this answer was posted automatically. Check this post out for more information.
Well, shake again. That's how magic 8 balls work, right? :)
My (ineligible) entry to my own contest (totally stole that from @coruscate who coincidentally was one of the people I was about to tag!): I'm guessing @coruscate because you're super into steem monsters and hmm well we all know what @goldfashioned and @goldmatters collect! hm I don't actually know him but when I was looking for pokemon pictures today, I saw that @acidyo is into pokemon and hearthstone, which is cool!
Ha ha great minds think alike about VANG

Thanks for opening an interesting conversation about collections. I used to collect coins, banknotes, boarding pass, movie tickets. However, after several house moves, I threw my collections away or give them away. I now collecting memories and experiences like some people mentioned in their comments.
Wow, such a lovely post. For me, Am good at collecting books. I just find it hard to let go if them.
I tag @chuksdozie2004, @gabrielinnocent and @toofunnymemes
