The term "blockchain technology" is almost as much as a buzzword-bullshit indicator as using the word "blockchain" in singular form without an "a" or "the" article.
Better use "Blockchain protocol" or similar.

Just because other people abuse the term doesn't mean it's not valid. I've been giving highly technical talks on Blockchain technology for over a year - it's a totally valid term if you actually discuss blockchain technology.
