Eventum Event 7 - be a snitch

in #blockchain7 years ago (edited)

Ok, so in my last post (Crowdsourcing truth on the blockchain), I said I would miss Eventum's 7th Alpha Event because it was at 5 am local time and I needed sleep. But... I couldn't resist. I did end up staying up for it, and was rewarded for my troubles.

The event ("Detecting suspicious activity") involved watching a video of security cam footage and selecting, from a drop-down box, the time frame during which a suspicious activity started. I was a bit confused by the video player at first, because I thought the video would be streaming and all participants would be seeing the same thing. This wasn't the case. Damn you and your surprises, Eventum! Instead, it was a YouTube video that didn't even autoplay! I'd already wasted a valuable second or two.

Here's the video. If you like, use a stopwatch to see how long it takes you to determine when (in half-minute blocks) the suspicious activity starts. Good luck!

I've had enough experience with YouTube to know that watching the whole video in real time will be waaaay too slow. Instead, you can drag the scrubber along to quickly see frame thumbnails. This proved to be a very effective approach for security cam footage, because everything was stationary until the suspicious activity happened. The answer determined by the consensus was 3:00–3:30.

So how did I do?

There was 8 ETH and 1,000,000 EVT to distribute among those who voted with the consensus. I came in at 89th position (of 315), bagging 0.0335 ETH and 4190 EVT. Decent earnings, but I could have done better had I known what to expect!

By the way, my favourite part of the video is when he pulls his shirt over his head (6:36)—what a turkey! However, the man kicks like a horse, gotta give him that.
