Blockchain to combat corruption: This is huge

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

In a June 15th article published by Cointelegraph, Spain tackles corruption with blockchain AI and amendments to anti-corruption laws, Selva Ozelli outlines how exactly the blockchain will do this (emphasis added):

The more promising blockchain applications relate to the registration and tracking of transferred crypto-asset transactions. With the support of the European Regional Development Fund, a Spanish blockchain company is developing an Ethereum-based blockchain solution that will allow parties to legally/contractually transfer ownership of crypto assets by reducing the possibilities of manipulation and fraud... by adding verifiability and audit-ability to digital transactions, and by tracking information and digitized assets without the need for intermediaries. The system will incorporate a public-key infrastructure, such as electronic time stamps and certified electronic delivery services, for such contracts.

In a nutshell the technology is being created that can track and trace every tax/public dollar spent, received or donated.  Specifically, the audit capability of this technology will usher in a new paradigm of accountability in how public funds are utilized.  Most importantly the ability to audit so clearly, how public funds are being used, will also ignite a new found interest in civics, and public interest in seeing what government is up to with their cash.  More on this at a later time.

Corruption - it's been the devil's club holding societies back from rising up beyond our animal instincts and off the forest floor for millennia.

Corruption.  It's a darned thing that has plagued our ideal 'isms' throughout history.  It's just a known fact that we've never seen true Communism, Socalism, nor have we ever had a whiff of true Capitalism.  In reality our attempts to carry out the vision of Marx, or Washington, or Napoleon etc... are just a "bastardization of the ideal." The source of this "bastardization" is and always has been corruption.  And we now have an arsenal of tools available to us to combat corruption at it's source - the exchange of funds.  With auditing possible of public funds through blockchain technology, corruption can quite seriously become much more difficult.  A layer of AI is also part of the anti-corruption platform being rolled out in Spain.  According to Cointelegraph:

For effective corruption and tax evasion detection, researchers from the University of Valladolid have developed an AI application. Because the first step in combating foreign bribery and related offences, is the detection of it. Their computer model is based on neural networks and  calculates the probability of corruption in Spanish provinces, as well as conditions that favor it.

Can AI in combo with blockchain finally solve the ages old issue with corruption?  Only time will tell, but Decentro's prediction is as follows:

The system will work, and immediately cause a measured reduction of incidences of corruption.  The blockchain and AI advantage will not be perfect (there will always be some corruption), but it will improve over time to the point where corruption could indeed be practically impossible.

We are extremely clever beings.  Many of our 'isms' look amazing on paper, are works of genius, love for humanity and idealism.  In reality, 'we are only human' - but that doesn't stop us from trying to improve, or to change what it means to be a human.  If we need technology to keep us on track - great! Let's do it!Unfortunately, corruption isn't the only reason why systems fail to remain true to their original intent.  It's a huge piece of the pie, but, well... some systems are just stupid, and don't work for reasons other than corruption. As corruption is ironed out of our civics, we will over time sample and trial different systems in their truer form.  Bring on true Capitalism!  Democracy! Socialism! Communism! Decentralism!  Whatever your bag is baby - we can soon and viably see how any system we've imagined would function/serve us in their intended form, freeish from corruption.  It's incredibly exciting to be at this junction in how we organize ourselves, us humans. With decentralized technology disrupting corruption - it certainly looks like the roots of Decentralism are taking hold at fundamental levels.
