Black Girl, White World

Follow me for the next year as I chronicle my journey as a Black woman living in a nearly all white small town in Northern Michigan.

I moved here from Central Ohio, where the metro population was nearly 800,000 and a good number of people of color. My new community has a population of 10,000 and there is a 4 percent minority population.

I moved here for job stability, and to live more intentional by connecting with the Great Outdoors. I enjoy downhill skiing, hiking, camping and beach activities which include snorkeling and kayaking -- just to name a few.

I recently divorced after raising a family and distancing myself from a love triangle, which involved my myself, my spouse, and a former coworker who I once, actually considered a friend.

I've lived in Alpena for three weeks now and have only seen and met three other people of, color. Geez!

Follow me as I adapt to my longing for R&B music (thank God for Sirius Radio, Spotify and streaming), minorities, and kin-folk. Check me out as I lead a work team as an executive director, connect with the friendly people in Northern Michigan and connect with this beautiful area known as God's Country and the Sanctuary of the Great Lakes.
