[PSA] Open Ledger Hacked

in #bitshares6 years ago (edited)

Source

Open Ledger has lost access to their domain openledger.info, openledger.io, and SSL certificates. Any links using this domain are not to be trusted. https://wallet.bitshares.org is safe and has not been compromised.

Until further notice, do not use Open Ledger URLs. You can access your wallet via BitShares using the brain key or online account. They are interchangeable and can both access your funds.

Do not use any Open Ledger services via openledger.info or openledger.io domain name.

The cliche is that hackers are geniuses. That's not true, hackers are generally stupid.

The top three hacking problems for the last 10 years are "phishing", "password reuse", and "SQL injection". These problems are extremely simple, as measured by the fact that teenagers are able to exploit them. Yet they persist because, unless someone is interested in hacking, they are unable to learn them. They ignore important details. They fail at grasping the core concept.

Let me guess, you are a hacker yourself, a whitehat i presume?

wow, that's pretty scary, again STEEM is risin'
nice post

Wow @themarkymark, thanks for the heads up. That man @themarkymark deserves bells, better yet a vote for WITSNESS!!

.

The weakest link on all of these decentralized exchanges is the centralize web-hosting. When will a solution be created that can solve this most troubling problem and bring us truly into the decentralized age.

How much have been compromised with these hack? Glad it's decentalized and only the domain have been taken down.

They lost the domain name, I do not know if anyone has lost funds but from what I understand the hackers were phishing so I can only assume some did. They are actively trying to recover the domains.

Thanks for the warning! I hope they are able to get control of their domain names and SSL certificates soon, before too much damage is done.

I am so glad I moved my EOS out... Hope they don't get their paws on my CUDDLEs!

CUDDLEs and EOS! Sounds like a wonderful mixture! :)

Or the name of the first cryptocuddlefest ever.

interesting!!!!! do y'all agree?

open ledger losing its access is so interesting man, when will it retrieve?

that's pretty scary again STEEM is risin. tnx shareit

Thanks for the warning! I hope they are able to get control of their domain names and SSL certificates soon, before too much damage is done.

Thank you for the information, I don't use open ledger myself, but sharing it with those that use it will definitely save them from problem.

Thank you very much. This information will help me a lot. I would like to thank you again for giving such information.

Do you think we will ever have stability and true security in the crypto marketplace?

Not any time soon, unfortunately.

upvoted and resteemed man that sucks but at least wallet.bitshares.org is safe

Highly beneficial Implications, It's an honor to be able to read your post @themarkymark.

Highly advanced technology makes us more alert to what is happening in the public and the things that happen both theft maupu other things with the existence of this imformation will be more vigilant.

its motivating!!!!

It is so motivating!

The more the technology is improving we infact will have to be more careful

This incidence call for concerns that means even decentralized exchangers are prone to hackers , decentralize exchangers are not safe also @themarkymark

Hi, resteemed to spread the word and added to the latest MAP Upvotes and Resteems post. Thanks!

Thank you! Was just on a couple of days ago. Any idea of the exact date of the hack?

It happened yesterday

Is there any following information.... How was the domain name lost? Was DNS compromised?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't think they released why

Congratulations @themarkymark!

Please can you help me?

I made my complaint and submitted my complaints ticket, they acknowledged the mail and said the security team was working on it.

Im new to the cryptoshpere and im freaking out please

They can be very slow to respond (weeks) and it is likely there is nothing they can do in this case. I will pass it on to a contact of mine and see if he can help at all.

Omg! This is not happening to me (x.x)

Thank you so much, i hope he can...i await your feedback, thank you

OpenLedger DEX Access Issue Update. Reimbursement Program to Be Launched

Hi thank you so much for the feedback and helping me out, i have followed the instructions, they said to wait till July, i dont have till July, i'm just so sad that these stolen funds belong to Neoxian, i really don't know what to do

Thanks for your help..

I read this too late... just lost 3k $ in EOS today.

Put in a ticket and see if they can help. I will pass it along to my contact and see if they can help.

THX a lot, that is nice. Thought about talking to stan, onceuponatime or xeroc.
Atm I am quite afraid of logging in to anything with my newly set keys. Do you know if that ticket can be issued via Bitshares? I think OL has some problems to fix before someone should log in there safely.

THX a lot, man!

Good luck, I hope it helps. Being upfront with you, I think it will be difficult but definitely give it all you got. I contacted my resource to see if there is any pressure they can do.

Hello @themarkymark, thank you so much for your support, the security team got back to me and asked me a couple of questions, then they said they will get back to me.

I really hope they do get back to me on time, these funds belong to neoxian and can land me in deep mess

OpenLedger DEX Access Issue Update. Reimbursement Program to Be Launched
https://dex.openledger.io/access-issue-ol-reimbursement-program/

Can't believe I hadn't spotted anything about this yet. I logged into OpenLedger just a few days ago. Just logged in via wallet.bitshares.org and everything looks intact. I use the local wallet functionality and not the web wallet, would that be resistant to this type of attack?
Out of caution, what reset should be undertaken? Do I need to reset my brain key to change all account keys if desired?

The local wallet (which is what I use) is more secure and would protect from these situations.

More reason why I am leary of cyryptocurrency.........

This problem has been issued in our nation, Korea. One of the biggest market 'Bithumb' was hacked before 2 days ago. We have to be caution about this problem.
