Welcome to the very first Bitshares State of the Network (BSotN) report. I hope to release this report weekly to look at the metrics in the ecosystem and track longer term changes in a effort to identify emerging trends in the Bitshares platform.

Highlights
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.
Observation from this week
- Peerplays snapshot windows is currently active so we can see a large number of Bitshares have been removed from the Exchanges and now reside in users wallets.
- BitCNY has the largest market cap of all smartcoins and its supply is still trending higher. Smartcoin adoption is a bullish indicator for the price of Bitshares; this is because smartcoins can only be issued by locking up BTS as collateral and therefore reducing the circulating supply.
- Smartcoins in generally are trending up in terms of market cap and issuance which is a great sign for the strength of the Bitshares network.
- Blockpay has completed their ICO for the 'BLOCKPAY' token. This was a big success and propelled their 'bitshares-munich-wallet' account into 11th place on the rich list. Good news regarding this; Chris4210 from the Bitshares Munich team has said that majority of these funds will be used to issue smartcoins and provide liquidity to facilitate merchants transactions.
- Although we have not got historic data to reference i can tell you from personal observations that the holding balance of users inside the top 50 has been increasing.. 2 weeks ago 4,200,000 BTS would have landed you in spot # 50, today you will require 5,057,708 BTS to achieve this same position
- User bitsharer has been busy name squatting domain names like a daemon for the last week at least. his most recent registration was wired.com he is targeting large corporations and at this time is only registering .com domain names.
- Compumatrix has launched their web wallet and are training there user on how to use the Bitshares DEX.. this will enable 1600 users to trade compuceeds, cryptoceeds, btcplus and sell Virtual Prepaid Crypto Cards to allow these 1600 users to become agents facilitating FIAT to Crypto transactions in a local bitcoin style exchange facilitated by the Bitshares DEX
- Chronos Crypto has launch his latest Bitshares video - Bitshares Inflation Rate. i also highly recommend checking out one of his other creation Intro to Bitshares - if you like what you see make sure you support his worker proposal to fund more of these educational videos.
- crypto123 is launching Project Rain, allowing Bitshares UIA to 'Rain' (sharedrop) on to BIONC users who are using hashing power to accomplish meaningful tasks - Find out more HERE
- The Gridcoin community has launched a Market Pegged Asset for Gridcoin they are campaigning for witnesses to produce price feeds to secure the peg; so far 2 witnesses have started to provide prices to facilitate the MPA and we are looking forward to more joining up soon. Also OpenLedger will soon be launching Open.GRC UIA which will allow a gateway between the Gridcoin network and the Bitshares network allowing Gridcoin users to trade GRC on the Bitshares DEX - I think i speak on behalf of all Bitshares holders when i say i would like to say Welcome to Gridcoin and their Community!.
- Personal observation/Speculation - Stan is busy ;) doing something.. he missed his first ever BeyondBitcoin meetup this week and there seems to be some delay on my favorite publication "The Origins of Bitshares'.
You made it :)
I hope you enjoyed this report; it is a lot to take in i know but i think it will be a good reference point for the future.
Given this is the first week we could not make any meaningful comparisons to prior time frames but i am looking forward to next week and comparing the changes that have taken place in the platform.
This is my first attempt at creating this report and i value your feedback.
Is there something more you would like me to track in these reports? please let me know in the comments.
Fantastic report about BTS! I have always been waiting for such a report for a long time.
I will also try to summarize some data or changes about the activeness of Chinese community in terms of the amount of followers, number of articles, number of news, etc. I believe that will be useful sources for your article.
BTW, I am curious that why the amount of bitUSD is less than bitCNY? as bitUSD is supposed to be more widely used than bitCNY.
Would love to see a report relating to the Chinese community, and the projects being work on :)
I think a lot of the reason behind BitCNY being more popular maybe related to the 'transwiser' service exchanging CNY -> BitCNY, may also be related to Bitcrabs proposal to optimise the BitCNY market parameters in relation to short squeeze protection and forced settlement. i believe these changes are being proposed for all Smartcoin due to the success of his initial proposal.
I also think given Blockpay going live soon that we will see a large increase in the amout of BitEUR being issues to facilitate their merchant operations.
I'm just start to looking in to bitshares. I find this report very useful. Thanks.
It's well worth a look.
Cheers man :)
If you haven't seen it before i would recommend Chronos intro video as a nice starting point
Thanks.
Looking for Peerplays Sharedrop! Thank you very much.
hope your holding your BTS in you wallet and not an exchange.. i'm excited to get onto the Peerplays network as well!
Excellent project, such summaries. Keep up the good work! :-)
Cheers Rok, thanks for comment, much love ;)
great analytics. personally, I'd add the referral stats... perhaps you could give it a thought?:)
That is an awesome idea!! Love it :) Thanks Ash
Edit: Updated the post to include it now and will keep tabs on it going forward ;) thx again great idea!
Great job on the analysis, I'm one of the few in the top 100, and to be honest, i feel that i'm not getting enough information about bitshares even though i have that feel-good factor about it. Would you mind sharing, why is openledger having such a small trade volume compared to other exchanges?
I think this is related to any exchange startup, competing we established players in the space is a hard ask. i also don't think people fully appreciate the benefits of trading on a decentralised exchange and i also think the concept of a decentralised exchange has been tarnished by people experience on platforms such as counterparty which take up to 10 minutes to place an order and another 10 to settle.
I am constantly impressed by the speed of the Bitshares DEX, to someone who doesn't understand what it means it may not be that impressive (similar to a normal exchange) but if you realize that all you trades occur on chain it is amazing.
Open.BTC asset seems to have a decent amount of trading each day but I think OpenLedger will increase in volume over time especially since they are listing Pre ICO coins for trading; this will bring in new users and they will experience the DEX first hand. Given that the current model of Open.* assets is a UIA it is very similar risk model to traditional exchanges; that is if OpenLedger is forced to close then the UIA that people hold will have no backing. The real power of this platform is the smartcoins and MPAs, once sidechains are implemented and there is full trust less exchange of all asset it will be a game changer.
Probably 1 issue is, the idea of a blockchain has not hit the people that hard yet. It may seem fascinating with everything happening on the chain and at a lightning speed, with its own set of OPEN. currencies. But I guess perhaps, OpenLedger had moved too fast for the daily users. Like I said earlier, the trading volume on OL has shocked me since I started buying in BTS awhile ago.
Sometimes I just feel that, for BTS to really take off, OpenLedger might be one key component. Hopefully we'll get a new revelation on BTS after the 16th, which doesn't look good at the moment for me, otherwise we'll probably have to wait till November when all the coin conversions to BTS are over.
The only problem is you never know when lightning is going to strike...
Mysterious as always!.. i feel the clouds are rolling in... and have been for quite sometime.
Any hints on an ETA for the next release of the Origins of Bitshares?
That history has yet to be written. :o)
Nice try ;) unless you mean you just have not typed it up yet..
i believe their is undisclosed history but revealing this history would affect 'This Summer' and therefore the rest of my beloved Origins of Bitshares series is 'on hold'.. but that OK i can wait.
Thanks for the comments :)
Gtreat time to get in bitshares now.
There is definitely a lot of projects in the works :)
