A group of criminals kidnapped a resident of Kiev and forced him to cede the access to his personal data and cryptocurrency savings, as reported by local media sources on June 18.
The attackers grabbed their victim in the parking lot near “Plazma” shopping center in Kiev. The gang members then pushed him into a car, drove him to a garage and conned into handing them his laptop, mobile phone and access to his personal data.
As a result, the robbers managed to get away with 158 bitcoins, as the related criminal case file reads. The total losses exceed $1 000 000. Criminal proceedings on the matter have already been initiated.
This is not the first time when Kievan crypto investors fall victims to robbery. In December 2017, Pavel Lerner, an expert in blockchain from EXMO cryptocurrency exchange, was kidnapped and held in a basement for three days before being spared against a ransom of 160 bitcoins.
