The lesson from Bitconnect I think is that it's not really about platforms or technology, but about community and relationships. The wealth is in the community and relationships between human beings. The technology only facilitates that or not. The move of Bitconnect to completely throw out the platform in the way they did was the wrong move.
That said, the people who used the platform include some very smart and decent people. These people can always form a community around a more decentralized and secure network (including Steem but not limited to it). The more secure network may not be as glamorous, it may not provide 1% daily interest, but it will also not be able to be shut down whether you choose to believe it is being shut down by authorities or as a scam.
