I was offered a bitcoin as payment for a $25 freelance graphics job (social media banners) and it got me into the world of bitcoin and crypto currencies.
I looked into the tech and decided to hold on to the coin instead of selling it.
However that coin was stored in MtGox and was lost in the first wave of hacks.

I lost interest in Crypto's after that for a while but bought back in last year and got into ethereum at the end of 2016.
